I cannot describe the rage I feel about AI and those who use it for things like this…there are enough examples of the real horrors humans face. I grew up trying to understand the human condition by looking at it through media. I don’t even know where to start on how destructive AI will be.

This is both fascinating & frightening. There is a demand for images that show and confirm what people already know and believe to be true, and AI slop meets that demand—with visual content that emblematically visualizes what the headlines report. One could call it synthetic hypervisualization

That TikTok account has a few fake videos of reporters getting detained. They make these videos because it’s a big story in the news. Real reporters are getting arrested. And so people are making AI videos to get engagement on TikTok.

Looking back, I don’t think the freshly minted PhD version of me could land a job in today’s market. I was smart, I was driven — but mostly, I was lucky.

It is impossible—even for those of us who spend a pathological amount of time every day working on CBP, ICE, and DHS—to fully track these agencies’ misdeeds.

Transparency trails years behind, if we are lucky and persistent. Someday, the accounting from this period will be terrible.

DHS Federal Protective Service is meant to secure federal property but is a weapon to deploy thousands of DHS agents to counter protestors. (See my next post for how they did this in LA.)

EXCLUSIVE — DHS Acting General Counsel sent out a memo Wednesday to all Federal Protective Service staff (the sub-agency that guards federal buildings) letting officers know they could take any action necessary "in the vicinity" federal property to protect themselves.
