especially seen back-to-back, these are much more deeply written than they seem on their surface - essentially being an emotional autobiography of Tarantino’s love affair with film, with Carradine standing in for Film itself, and Thurman representing Tarantino on a punishing journey to mastery.

Underrated, darkly hilarious film that insidiously casts the charming James Mason so that, from his character’s POV, the first half plays like a light farce - before flipping the tone to realism and taking aim at the audience, asking “why exactly are you rooting for this desperate, abusing creep?”

it's these little cracks that indicate the administration is in trouble; for someone like Greene, there's nothing innocent or spontaneous about these phrases - she is setting up linguistic outs so she can avoid political collateral damage when things collapse.
