especially seen back-to-back, these are much more deeply written than they seem on their surface - essentially being an emotional autobiography of Tarantino’s love affair with film, with Carradine standing in for Film itself, and Thurman representing Tarantino on a punishing journey to mastery.

My ★★★★★ review of Kill Bill: Vol. 2 on Letterboxd boxd.it/bkC1Yv

The way David Carradine grounds the most outlandish of scenes is deserving of all the Oscars.

Underrated, darkly hilarious film that insidiously casts the charming James Mason so that, from his character’s POV, the first half plays like a light farce - before flipping the tone to realism and taking aim at the audience, asking “why exactly are you rooting for this desperate, abusing creep?”

All [things are] pasteboard masks. But [behind them] some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall?”

it's these little cracks that indicate the administration is in trouble; for someone like Greene, there's nothing innocent or spontaneous about these phrases - she is setting up linguistic outs so she can avoid political collateral damage when things collapse.

It's wild that if social media companies simply implemented strict rules against poor comma usage and unmotivated capitalization, we would find ourselves in a far safer world.

I think about this every day; if any of these dolts knew history - hell, if they watched any PBS instead of trying to defund it - they’d realize that none of this works out well. Narcissists always think they are the first ones to narcissist.

Once this all starts collapsing, weasels like this tend to eat each other alive trying to stay out of prison, so as infuriating as it is to see her in full 80s villain mode here, we can look forward to enjoying a bowl of popcorn and five pints of schadenfreude before it’s over.

Infinitely proud to have worked on this masterpiece. Plus I love the shot here of Gyllenhaal’s ‘Aqua Velva’ cocktail.

Thinking about The Thing, and wondering if those corrupted by the organism know they’ve been taken over and have become meat muppets of an evil alien, or do they just feel more and more aligned with the alien’s interests, even as their heads tear themselves from their bodies and sprout spider legs?
