Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.

I made the mistake (once again) to try and read some SF written by men. It's... meh. But I cringe so hard every time they introduce any female character : they literally can't do it without describing if she's attractive or not. 😑
