Chicago. Parent. Fat. Bisexual. Bipolar II. Loud. Still masking. Kind of cute if you squint. Nerdy, but in a way that's fairly socially acceptable now. I have a kid, Nikole, who is she/they and a spouse, N, who is he/him.

If you post queerphobic bullshit like "Elonia Musk" or two male politicians kissing or whatever then I'm blocking you.

You don't need to make "ewww gaaayyy" jokes about these dipshits. You can simply point to the actual harm they are actively doing. You don't need to make gay jokes period, in fact.
What are some "old web" type sites that are still around?

Like... neopets still exists.

What else does?

(i posted about it earlier, people are fundraising or covering a family, thus "adopting" their rent. people venmo them money, they send one transaction to a family)

we have five more on our list as of right now, but that is a problem for tomorrow.

today's report:

our "adopt a rent" venmo campaign paid 43 families rents who were at risk of evictions, including several moms of 4+ children

this is the way to get rent paid fast. like. 1000x better than any other way.

"That looks pretty good. When are you going to finish it?"

wait what
Progress over my lunch break.

Oh dang, ICQ no longer exists.

I'm assuming that person is keyword search Mitch McConnel or something similarly productive.

SMH my head at an American making a joke about an American politician when the TRUE victims (Canadians) are right there.

Have you no SHAME?

And not everyone has access to that! But you can still buy spices one jar at a time, and they make cheap food so much more pleasant.
February 5, 2026 at 4:43 AM
Some grocery stores/restaurants work within those restrictions - you buy ingredients and then they cook it for you for $1, or there's a microwave you have access to, etc.

The fundamental issue is that a lot of folks, folks in power, think some people don't deserve to eat.
February 5, 2026 at 4:42 AM
"She's a bad cook" is real low hanging fruit and doesn't address the actual issue:

They firmly believe that some people don't deserve food.

This is a LONG established firmly held belief going back centuries.

It's why you can't buy hot prepared food with SNAP in most states.

My best friend bought a house about ten years ago. Plastic "wood paneling" covered actual wood paneling. You know those peel and stick vinyl floor tiles that look like parquet flooring if you squint? Stuck to real parquet floors.

What... the fuck.
February 5, 2026 at 4:39 AM
People are dunking on her for being a bad cook and she probably is but the real thrust of this attitude is that some people deserve delicious enjoyable food and some people don't. Some people are deserving and some are not. Some people are Saved and some people are sinners.

It's hateful.
why are we like this in america
February 5, 2026 at 4:38 AM
The underlying idea is that some people deserve to enjoy food and some people don't and should suffer with the blandest "healthiest" shit possible, and I hate it. It's despicable.

Cilantro is less than a dollar a bunch, and I use it to make large servings of stuff that I portion out and freeze for later or else feed a bunch of people at once. Fish sauce and dried chili peppers are not hard to keep on hand. Spices are an initial investment, yes, I admit that, but they last.

I'm very used to the tone she uses so for me they're fast reads. Well, it helps a bit that I'm audio-ing them while I taking a shower, cooking, drawing, working remotely, etc. My kid called me out on it. "Is all you listen to now British books? What's up with that? Or is this one lonnnnnng book."
February 5, 2026 at 4:30 AM
The biggest issue is that I have extremely expensive taste... and a tap water budget. So we're trying to remove as much of the adhesive as possible, but otherwise focusing on other stuff.

And, uh, we need to focus on other structural stuff.

Like tuck pointing.

We have a fireplace similar to this, but flanked by built in book cases. It's brick, & someone covered up the brick with plastic brick veneer.

They used a lot of adhesive.

Excuse me while I stare into the distance.

We are probably going to tile over it, IDK if the dried on adhesive is removable.

FWIW, I'm enjoying the Temeraire books.

Wm. Lawrence: would you marry me?

Jane Rowland: lol, lmao even, no, why would I?

The man's parents already think her illegitimate child is his.

Also please stop describing characters/actors as super hot, then drawing pictures of them w/smaller ears and reposting/resharing those smaller-eared pictures. Your blorbo has big jug ears and that's fine. Love him, love his ears. Don't make him "prettier." It's weird! You're weird for doing that!!
February 5, 2026 at 4:24 AM
It's fine to have various head canons, queer or not, about media but I wish people wouldn't advertise stuff as being super queer when it isn't queer at all.

Sorry, a bunch of nominally conventionally attractive 40 year olds playing 20 year olds sitting in the same room doesn't mean they're queer.
February 5, 2026 at 4:24 AM
I'm reading Naomi Novik's "Temeraire" books bc some new social media pals are super into them.

As with a lot of media, there's a bunch of fannish chatter about the simmering homoeroticism about to boil over between two characters... who sometimes stand around talking about their jobs.

I need everyone to stop what you're doing RIGHT NOW and look at this tile.

And also send me money so I can purchase this tile.
A Great Blue Hearth
I was delighted to receive these photos of a heron-themed, watercolor blue fireplace surround that was created as part of an eco-friendly restoration of a 150+ year old home in Maryland. I got a kick...
