This will be the hill I die on, “porn addiction” is not real, that phrase specifically is used as a dog whistle and is backed only by pseudoscience which has been created by right wing fascist organisations with the intention to demonise minorities. It is not real, actual science proves it isn’t.

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.

Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.

Bizarro is funny but also pretty sad as a character. He has those speaking patterns because that's basically how baby talk was written back then, and the opposite stuff was tacked on later

I feel like it's worth noting that the artist for the series is a woman and she's almost certainly involved in the creative process. They at least talk about it as a 50/50 partnership

Yeah I definitely agree with this, I think what trips a lot of people up is that he's as much of a ridiculous gag character as any of the others in the manga and can't really work as a self insert

He's obviously the reason they know each other and he is what links the group together as a whole but there's a good amount of chapters where he doesn't even appear and it's just the girls

I really can't agree, the reason I think it works is because the girls have their own relationships independent of Rentaro. They hang out & form bonds that are independent of him. He's not even particularly involved in the romances between the girls, and isn't even aware that they're a thing
