Drawing recruits from the 101st Chairborne, are they?
Post locked. Go dogpile someone else who actually matters.
You know nothing about me, or my family. Similarly, I know nothing about you, so I won't respond with the kind of insults and prejudice you apparently think are acceptable. Goodbye.
USAnian history 'major' so...yeah 😬
I mean, King James VI and I was certainly our most well-known queer monarch (and pretty openly so for the 16th/17th Centuries). But he was hardly the only one. And certainly not the first (Edward II and William II Rufus probably were as well).
Why is my opinion so important? Why should they care about what I think? I'm not a politician nor do I have any influence on policy beyond writing to my MP. I want them to benefit from evidence-based treatments that are safe.
Something I learned of via personal connections to the events concerned. The vagueness is deliberate because I do not wish to risk breaching confidentiality regarding anyone involved. I will not be going into any further details.
I am aware of this, and the controversy surrounding it. My view is that if decisions have been made that prove to be based on erroneous data on review, then necessary amendments and policy changes can and will be made. If that makes me a monster, sorry 🤷‍♂️
My view is, if someone's interpretation of activism for a cause starts to sound like advocacy for a religion (in terms of percieved thought processes and language), I'm likely to approach it only with caution.
Luckily, these crusaders were eventually binned off, but not before they'd caused a lot of needless stress and disruption to very vulnerable people who needed listening to, not talking at. I'm afraid it didn't exactly improve my views of people who get very intense about activism of any kind.
In the process what they actually achieved was upsetting a significant number of the people they purportedly wanted to advocate for, made spurious allegations against other staffers they decided didn't operate in the 'correct' way (according to the 'saviours'). Bulls in a china shop stuff.
Through this, I also learned of occasions when individuals on the staff who considered themselves committed to Trans issues advocacy tried to impose what they thought was 'right' for clients onto existing protocols, *without* consulting the actual clients. Bad cases of 'saviourism'.
Alright. I was referring to the experiences of actual people going through the process of transitioning, not the 'culture war' in general. I have family who've worked with helping such people and their families, adjust to the changes, with compassion and understanding.
"Remember that time when Fascism was challenged through humiliating mockery via brigades of heroes in novelty inflatable animal costumes?
Four Seasons Total Landscaping (Holmesburg, Philadelphia, PA) remembers." 👏
Brb just writing a screenplay about a struggling inflatable costume factory in a wholesome but dying American small town that unexpectedly helps save democracy, and democracy saves it right back.
Not being American, my knowledge of him is very surface-level. But this Platner chap is reminding me of 'Mad' Mike Hoare.
This is definitely *not* a compliment.

So all I would say in response was, unfollow me if you want because I'm really not bothered, and then the Mute option was deployed.
I don't like the thought of existing in an echo chamber, but I had to try and help a good friend not to self-destruct over the weekend. So I'm really not in the mood to be lectured at by total strangers whose own opinions are based mostly in misinterpretation and their own internalised trauma.
They came. Apparently the PM is a transphobe and a facilitator of Fascism. Who'da thunk it? 🤷‍♂️
I have close family members who've been heavily involved in transgender healthcare and support for years. I'm aware of how delicate a situation exists. I've seen how dogmatic pro and anti advocacy can harm real human beings
If I've disappointed you, you can unfollow and block me if you want 🤷‍♂️
It says I'm fortunate enough to be able to look at things as they are, rather than through the lens of internalised trauma that fosters unconscious paranoia.
I've just spent my weekend caring for a friend whose paranoia resulting from trauma brought them to the brink of s*icide.
You're American, aren't you? People over here are catastrophising because of what's happened over there; even though it *isn't happening over here*. That sort of catatrophising is understandable, but it's only going to profit the actual Fascists.
No he isn't. That's paranoia speaking. I'm seeing it all over the place. People are so traumatised by the experience of the last few years that I'm not surprised.
Keir Starmer is arguably the most 'professional' PM we've had since Gordon Brown.
Is he perfect? No, because no one is. But I'd sooner have him or someone like him at the helm than any hollow, shouty demagogue the hard-right or hard-left are trying to shove on us.
Sir Keir Starmer.

Our PM.

He's hard working with proven experience of getting things done.

Hated by the hard left as he's not Corbyn.

Hated by the far right as he solve the issues they are exploiting.

Hated by the media just because he's Labour.

All lie about him.

So let's show him some love!
I'm not sure that promoting for political office a man whose attitudes may in part resemble those of 'Mad' Mike Hoare is an optimal idea 😬.
Seems to have a case of "I watched 'Platoon' and thought Tom Berenger's character was in the right".
