WTI Postdoctoral Fellowship applications are open! Unique opportunity for those pivoting fields or working across disciplines. I’d be happy to support candidates with a background in immunology and/or in vivo 2-photon imaging, including collaborations with other WTI labs wti.yale.edu/initiatives/...

Eerie how timeless this quote is. Came across it while walking in downtown San Diego.

Every few months the "good lab hands" thing comes up and it misses a key point: you can learn to have good hands. Training matters.

Good hands aren't some magic gift from the PCR gods, you have to develop them through directed repetitive practice, like any other skill

Excited to be representing the @emiliafavuzzi.bsky.social lab at @krfoundation.org 's 2025 Innovations symposium! If you're here, feel free to say hi and come talk about brain-immune system interactions! #idb #brain #neuroscience #immunology #research #scicomm
Picture of symposium room with podium. Two projector screens on the sides of the podium say "Kenneth Rainin Foundation 2025 Innovations Symposium" with a picture of Turtle Bay Oahu, Hawaii. Picture of Zachary Gursky, smiling, holding a name tag that says "Kenneth Rainin Foundation 2025 Innovations Symposium, Zachary Gursky, Yale University, Grantee"

Something I've been feeling a lot lately, but haven't heard much about is the grief that comes with being an early career scientist in America in 2025.

I think we all understand that, even if things turn out well, there is no going "back to normal" now.

A (sad) thread /1

I am looking for a postdoc with an immunology background interested in joining a Yale neuroscience lab to study how the brain controls immunity. At Yale, we have a wonderful interdisciplinary & collaborative #neuroimmune community. Please reach out or share with anyone who might be interested!

International students upend their lives to join American science, bringing their novel insights that drive innovation.

Now, they are being illegally targeted by Trump, because Harvard won't back down.

Classic bully behavior.

Trump administration revokes Harvard's ability to enroll international students
International students make up more than a quarter of Harvard University's student body. Harvard says the government's actions, which could cut off a major revenue stream, are "unlawful."

It’s been fun to contribute to this work, go check the latest subtype specific enhancers from Gord’s lab!

Here is the collective effort of 12 labs, lead by my own at the Broad to target the range of cortical interneuron subtypes! These tools should be a game changer for all of you using NHP and other less genetically amenable species! Have at it!

Today, the ERC formally adopted a decision to increase its support for researchers moving to Europe.

On top of its normal grants, the ERC offers 'start-up' funding to help PIs establish laboratories / research teams in Europe.

This extra funding is now x2 (up to €2 million!)

Sharing a new paper from the lab. This paper, led by Sangyoon Ko, represents a merging of two longstanding research themes in the lab-- adult neurogenesis and systems consolidation.

Systems consolidation reorganizes hippocampal engram circuitry
Nature - A study shows that loss of memory precision associated with systems consolidation can be explained by neurogenesis-dependent reorganization of engram circuitry within the hippocampus over...
