Been doing a lot of reading on the shoe industry. Interesting fact, a Skiver as in the trade of thinning leather down on seams etc, is from the OE/ON ‘skifa’ ‘to cut or split’. The term skiver to avoid work is from the Middle French ‘esquiver’ to escape.

Ki-tan the helpful but clumsy onion is the mascot for Kitami City in Hokkaido.

Damn, the ceiling sauce reminds me of the time that I was trying to put a lid on a plastic tub of baked beans… and they ended up on *every* possible surface!

I only ever saw the first 5 minutes of each episode, before heading back to school for the afternoon, and the recap of the previous episode meant I pretty much knew the whole storyline!

Highland cows and midgie bites… surprised to hear you have those so far from Scotland! 😆
emusingemma.bsky.social
Yes - I have no idea why someone thought of making them from bread, it’s one of the most bizarre ideas I’ve ever come across!

Fascinating guy. I went to an exhibition of kaleidoscopes in one of the buildings in the old quad, and it had lots of Brewster related info, but I was fascinated with him even before that.

4. Crushed cold water
We do make crushed ice like this at work, although the bottle is cut off so it doesn’t narrow at the top, and we put a fabric sleeve over it to stop ice falling out as we bash it. We run it under hot water first, which causes it to crack satisfyingly!
