A woman and a child are photographed from behind, while riding their bikes in a protected bike lane, on a bridge. The woman is wearing an orange helmet, and the back of her e-cargo bike has a sign that advertises “Kidical Mass Halifax”. The child is slightly, on their own bike, and is wearing a a black hooded suit with fluffy ears.

I'm one of those year round cyclists and also a driver. The days I don't drive due to snow/ice & the days I don't bike due to snow/ice are mostly the same. If we had more protected bike lanes, I'd bike even more in the winter. On those no-bike days, I'm mostly wary of others' bad winter driving.

Mid-October and the Deedee’s bike rack has finally arrived in #BikeHfx. It’s just in time for ice cream with a jacket season!🍦
A bike corral on an asphalt street. The area surrounding the corral is outlined with a white painted line on the asphalt, and green flex posts marking. A blue e-cargo bike is parked at one of the corrals. A car, some trees, and some houses are in the background.

There's a newly minted exec who does seem genuinely invested in this stuff. I'm hopeful it sticks as a new direction for the organization. There's definitely interest in working with HRM to improve transit services for healthcare.

I'm on a committee that could probably answer this question WRT to one hospital at least. I'm super curious, and gonna ask about increased bus pass uptake at the next meeting.

Same! I choose my laundry days more carefully during winter, but never stop entirely. Sometimes I have to hang things in the basement instead!

I can’t see anything on the HRM website or the Halifax Water website about construction on Oxford St.

Any idea what was happening there today and if it’s gonna be ongoing? I have errand plans tomorrow afternoon, and I am wondering if it’s closed at any point?

E-bikes are magical! But IMO, only when you combine them with safe routes/infrastructure. I can’t in good conscience recommend cycling in Halifax to anyone living off the peninsula, unless they are already particularly keen about it!

Jillian's sign is an 8.5x11" sheet of paper, heat-seal laminated. They hold up pretty well!

If using a hole-puncher in the laminate (to tie onto your bike), I recommend reinforcing with tape around the holes.

I just picked all the tomatoes with even the slightest hints of a ripening colour, just in case!

You can now book updated Flu, COVID (LP.8.1), and RSV vaccinations in Nova Scotia. Free RSV shots available to anyone over 75. Free Flu and COVID shots are available to anyone 6 months or older. If you've been recently sick or vaccinated it's best to wait until it's been 3 months. COVID is airborne.

The text of the CTV article does say "Firefighters are urging people to use only CSA-approved or UL-certified batteries". I wish that point were more prominent in the story.

NS Health's AI apparently programmed with incorrect information. Covid's primary route of transmission is aerosol (airborne), not droplets/surfaces.

The primary method of COVID-19 transmission is through droplets, which quickly settle on surfaces within two meters. However, airborne precautions are used during aerosol-generating medical procedures (AGMPs) to minimize the risk of transmission. More information on AGMPs can be found here. Airborne transmission occurs when airborne particles remain suspended in the air, travel on air currents, and are inhaled by others nearby or some distance away from the source. Control of airborne transmission requires control of airflow through special ventilation systems and the use of respiratory protection.

Does breathing generate aerosols?

While normal breathing does produce some droplets, activities like talking, screaming, coughing, or sneezing produce larger droplets.
Labour and delivery are also not considered aerosolized events. Aerosol Generating Medical Procedures (AGMPs) are specific medical procedures that generate aerosols. The AI claimed that breathing generates fewer aerosols than AGMPs so I tried asking for more info. How many aerosols are generated by breathing compared to an AGMP?

To best answer your question, could you clarify what context you're interested in? For example, are you concerned about a specific medical setting or a particular activity? #NSPoli

They notice SO many things we adults miss. It’s truly amazing the things I don’t notice, that my kid does. And I always thought I was an observant person! 😂

100% of people under age 16 are nondrivers. They live in every community and they deserve to be able to get around as much as anybody else.

My only #WeekWithoutDriving trip today was the #DevonshireBikeBus. 1/3

I hate this crosswalk so much. It practically doesn’t exist - no one stops unless they are in gridlocked traffic blocking the crosswalk entirely.
