It never surprises me when people come back from Europe and say they love it there; trains, walkable cities, healthcare, good food, etc. Yeah, that’s socialism. We can have that too. It’s literally just a more humane version of capitalism.

JD Vance's half-brother has lost by an overwhelming margin as he tried to become the mayor of Cincinnati.

Democratic incumbent Aftab Pureval wins reelection.

the "If Zohran wins I'm moving out of New York" crowd should have 30 days to post the zillow listing
The big political winner tonight is actually AOC. She can hold up the Mamdani victory as proof democratic socialism gets votes. I think she runs in 2028 dem primary and wins. There’s a path for her and Mamdani’s success proves it.

BREAKING:

NBC News projects: Abigail Spanberger (D) wins Virginia Governor. Democrat Gain.

We have the first result of any of the 190+ races on my cheat sheet, and it's from Florida.

The only Republican on Orlando's city council has lost his reelection bid: Jim Gray was defeated by Democrat Tom Keen.
Never forget that the media questioning Mamdani as the future of the Democratic Party are all owned by Big Corporations trying to put millions of people out of work by unleashing unregulated AI. They are literally trying to nullify the will of voters in advance. Messed up. Super nihilistic.

From Lawrence O'Donnell: The Convicted FElon's approval numbers are as low as they were after the J6 insurrection, only 37% approval. The Majority of Americans disapprove of everything that he is doing. The economy, immigration, tariffs, use of ICE & national guard, healthcare & so on.

I hope Mamdani's campaign was a lesson to all of us: Don't let anyone take you out of character. They'll jump out of theirs--mask off--eventually.
This explains why tech Nazism is being pushed on the public. It’s chatbots. Not people themselves but AI bots sowing discontent.

Local polling place is packed. Love to see it
I honestly don’t think rightwing ideology is that popular in US. I think some Americans thought they could get rich off Trump deregulating crypto, promoting tech scams, etc. Now that it hasn’t happened they won’t be supporting him. Hence the tanking poll numbers. He conned people big time.
Pretty interesting that NYC will go from a Mayor who backed crypto and was in the pocket of billionaires to a Mayor who is a democratic socialist & wants to make the city more affordable. I think that says a lot about the mood in this country. People are tired of scams, greed, & tech bro ideology.

Rama Duwaji and her husband Zoran Mandami casting their vote in New York.
I’m excited to see this. Looks great

Incredibly funny to watch the right wing going Oh so just because I love money and hate poor people I'm a bad Christian according to "the pope"???

A lot of the people you see arguing against food assistance are actually on food assistance. They work at Walmart or a convenience store and think they are deserving, but others are not.

This is projection and the way that the 1% keep poor people pitted against poor people so they don’t look up.

Roughly twice a year a 47 year old straight white guy (take your pick: podcaster, pundit, popsci) author decides that we should repeal Section 230 and end all online anonymity.

They are always convinced they are the first genius to come up with this.

And they are always wrong 😑

For all MAGAts missing out on EBTs right now, even though your kids may go hungry tonight, it's okay because no transwoman is playing mixed pickleball at a Boise State intramural right now.
We all may have disagreed with Republicans in the past but never has someone so brazenly lied about almost everything and the media just shrugs. They really don’t care if Trump exaggerates every single detail. I mean, it’s crazy. If you knew someone like that you’d never go near them.
It’s hard to be an effective leader when the person routinely makes up stuff & lies. Then wants you to believe it’s a point of view. Sorry, it’s not. It isn’t just gas prices. He makes up stuff about Tylenol being bad, crime being bad (statistically it’s not), tariffs not being a tax (it is). Lies.
Gas ⛽️ where I live is over $3.30/gal. Every month Trump lies in a tweet about it being $2. It’s not $2. I know that’s not the most important thing but the way he lies about even small facts. Just goes to show what kind of person he is. He’ll lie about anything no matter what it is.

this is such a great encapsulation of why this race feels existential even to people outside NYC. Cuomo as the final boss of everything wrong with the current Democratic Party, Mamdani happily grabbing the third rails everyone’s told are too dangerous to touch (trans people, Muslims, socialism)
It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.
