Tonight I watched a Diane Keaton movie I hadn't seen in decades, Shoot the Moon (easily rentable on various services). She's so remarkable as a mother of four watching her marriage break up--she goes from crushed to liberated to uncertain to furious to resolute in a completely idiosyncratic way.

Cool result for all the companies that use UPS for domestic shipping. I know the Trump admin is ultimately to blame, but a private company wantonly destroying packages seems like a path to some lawsuits.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Praising virtue signalling feels like a desire to go back to a time when comfortable people didn't have to be faced with the mask off bigotry that was always there.

How about we praise virtue. Praise those sacrificing or risking their power or privilege to do the right thing?

That's nice that the extremely wealthy influencer went to the prison to humanize the incarcerated. That's good! But what are they doing now to help dismantle the carceral system? Nothing. Because it's not cool anymore, and doing so might threaten their power, privilege.

I see virtue signalling discourse is going around again. Privileged people don't seem aware that it was BIPOC posters who brought it up in the first place. Virtue signalling is how we end up here because performative ethics disappears when your power, privilege are threatened. We need virtuousness.

In addition to destroying ICE and DHS, we should probably start thinking about a reparations framework. If they keep records on which officers conduct arrests, we could make individual officers liable to pay damages to their victims.

ICE secretly kidnap autistic boy during bathroom break—never notify parents.

Mother reported him missing a week ago—turns out ICE had him detained the whole time.

He was helping sell fruit and asked to go to the restroom—by the time she was done helping a customer he was gone.
