Listen, a hill I'll die on.

If a group of people with a shared struggle are asking for freedom and acceptance, it's not more "objective" for people from outside the group to report on them. That's not how social hierarchies work, people outside the group have self interest in maintaining status quo

This is such an astoundingly bad idea that I kinda think it’s a false flag or an op of some sort

Merits aside, it is insanely easy to be caught if you do this and the punishment for doing this is much more severe than you’d guess.

You just have no moral compass do you?

Today in Portland, a fed shooting pepper balls from the roof of the ICE facility was so eager to aim for people’s heads, that after shooting one photographer in the head and another in the upper arm, they accidentally shot a DHS agent in the head. This photo shows the moment of impact;
Riot cops standing a street with less-lethal weapons, and one in a gas mask has a cloud of pepper dust around his helmet.

And this leads to one thing, among many, that scares me a lot now: Things were already very bad on this front, but the unhinged gestapo tactics of ICE grant enormous power to predators across society in positions of power to prey upon vulnerable people: employers, abusers, etc.

Yeah I'm only pushing back against the pervasive idea, as this article represents, that unhoused people need to earn housing or be punished. So the pushback was related to the article.

saw someone arguing that MTG's anti Israel noises suggest that she's a more reliable moral voice longterm than most centrist Ds, and...like, people really need to acknowledge just how antisemitic she is and what role that plays in her approach to Israel policy. 1

Currently there are almost 80,000 unsheltered people in LA county and close to 10,000 in Orange County, how do we get them all housed?
estarianne.bsky.social
I mean if my "people need housing" is a strawman then so is "people need care" because I certainly never said they don't? And you seem cranky with me for no reason.

Neither currently exists here.

I simply think the snart--> dumb spectrum is a really bad way to analyze why people are doing the things they are doing right now.

*innate characteristics
estarianne.bsky.social
It's so hard to pull people out of trying to rank themselves above other people on the merit scale to gain power.
estarianne.bsky.social
Ranking people by percieved IQ is bad because IQ sets up a hierarchy of human value based on in act characteristics.

What these people are doing isn't due to brains lacking ability but because their motivations are corrupt.

Yeah, "is this a war zone" is a question journalists should be able to answer with their own observations.
estarianne.bsky.social
I think that it's clear that the solution needs to be regional rather than local, regional public housing with varying levels of support for people who struggle to keep up with capitalism.

Cities are broken down into smaller and smaller chunks that try to push the problem around to other places and nobody just builds that system that obviously needs to exist.
estarianne.bsky.social
Don't bind up the clear path forward with nonsense.
estarianne.bsky.social
And there's ample data showing that many of them will fail to fend for themselves even with treatment, so you create a system that eliminates the need to fend.
estarianne.bsky.social
Once you take that option off the table the options become clearer.

Your options are to house them and then act on any health care needs they might have or act on those needs and hope they can just fend for themselves.
estarianne.bsky.social
The problem: there are unhoused people in the city and the housed people find them distasteful.

Option off the table: those humans ceasing to exist in the city.
estarianne.bsky.social
I think one of the things that gets people caught up when dealing with homelessness as a political issue is not narrowing the options before deciding on a solution.

Yet some people see him struggling and want to punish him instead of helping (this is my city).
