Why can he do this? Are there no guardrails? I don't even care about ballroom/no ballroom, I just can't believe a president can just willy nilly change an iconic historical property without any review.

There used to be entire architectural associations whose whole purpose was to lose their minds when someone tried to change the way the White House looked. Taller fence? Gasp! Close the street in front? Quelle horreur! Where'd they vanish to?
