Happy #FluorescenceFriday! This is a maximum intensity projection of depth shaded actin (🌈) in a section from an E9.5 🐭 neural tube (NT). 🔬 by postdoc @christinaadaly.bsky.social 👩‍🔬 🧪 Image shows the floor plate and lumen of the developing NT.

Along with co-organiser @marianadeniz.bsky.social, Constadina (Dina) shared a fantastic interview series on FocalPlane highlighting @chanzuckerberg.bsky.social funded researchers that are passionate about expanding global access to microscopy.

After 20 hours of travelling, some dinner with Constadina Arvanitis @camatnu.bsky.social, & a few hours of sleep, we'll be heading to Banos soon!

We were planning to share a picture of the view as we descended into Quito but unfortunately a thick layer of cloud had other ideas.

Life knows how to keep going - even if it’s freezing -15 degrees C 🥶 outside. AGU just covered our discovery of ultra resistant ice diatoms gliding into a world record! 🧪🔬Enjoy the story here:

New addition to my thoughts on 🧪 mentoring. Give trainees a seat at the table. Are you going to a conference where you will speak about their work? Encourage them to attend. Are you going to a meeting to discuss their project with a collaborator or editor? Invite them and ask for their input.

Mentoring is the most important thing most of us can do. Here is a 🧵about what I've learned as a PI running an academic research lab. I hope some of the advice is helpful to those who are just starting their labs and to folks hitting the academic job market in search of an independent position 🧪 1/n

Hello #molecularbiology #cellbiology #CRISPR people! My student did CRISPRi with transient transfection & sees target knockdown, but 1) the plasmid has no fluorescent marker and 2) the cells refuse to die with antibiotics.
How would you quantify/estimate transfection efficiency?
