Next up, wind swaths! 🌬💨

This was created solely using report clustering (no other gridded data). Plenty of events across the entire US, but can see the most intense storms from the Great Plains into the Midwest! 🟦
This is an incredible loop! It's not a tropical storm, but what's its energy equivalent?
FYI, no need to use a URL shortener that may go dark on Bluesky. Paste the URL, wait for the card to load, then delete the URL entirely, with no character penalty. #nlwx #nltraffic
Wow! how out of the ordinary is this storm?

Private weather stations on the southern Avalon at Cape St. Mary's and Powles Head Lighthouse are measuring gusts well over Hurricane-force this evening!

I am so tiered of explaining to people about privacy and cookies, so here is an allegory for you.

As in sex, the same goes for privacy, consent must be active, clear, knowing, ongoing, voluntary and is always REQUIRED!

Between grants getting politically targeted and my lab’s building getting literally fucking bombed, 2025 is going great thanks
It's the climate change of personal agency.
The argument that "The government/police/corporations can have all my data, I got nothing to hide" drives me up the wall, across the ceiling and out the door. To be so blase about this is mind boggling.
Ug. The Liberals aren't much different, also going headlong into more oil development, while only paying lip service to climate change. Yet the party that would do anything about it can't get elected.
I ask my closest friends then to give me their email, bank and other account passwords and access to their home cameras. They won't. Do they trust me less than the above crowd? No, but I'm a real person vs. a faceless entity and makes things more real.

Mind has been officially blown by seeing Saturn and its moon Titan through the Mills Observatory Victorian 10" Cooke telescope. WOW! Every time I've visited before, the clouds have come too, but not today! This old technology still works perfectly with a clockwork tracking mechanism. Stunning 🥳👌 🔭

GOOD NEWS! A new cancer vaccine has shown progress in triggering POWERFUL and LASTING immune responses in patients with pancreatic AND colorectal cancer. The vaccine, known as ELI-002 2P, targets mutant KRAS proteins AND had a huge impact on PREVENTING or DELAYING cancer recurrence in patients.
Good morning from the Avalon. #nlwx

This extra height & heat will amplify the torrential tropical downpours. Many spots (esp hills) will see over 3 feet of rain with cascading flash flooding and mudslides. So despite winds 150+, the threat of rain flooding (and surge) may prove to be even more threatening.
Road conditions are live again on NL 511. #nlwx #nltraffic
There's been lightning and loud thunder off and on for the last half hour in the west end of St. John's, along with heavy downpours since 3 am or so. #nlwx #yyt
Heads up if you're on the Avalon Peninsula, you could be seeing some lightning soon. #nlwx
St. John's is car dominated. It wears a collar, a leash and it keeps getting screwed by cars.

A reminder that I have "Arkham" embedded in my name.

(not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Vibrant Sunday around Bonne Bay. But the season is progressing quickly; leaf-loss quite already quite pronounced over the higher terrain! #nlwx

Banning AirBnB is a case where the “abundance” framing is useful.

I get the desire to prioritize residents over visitors in a housing emergency.

But shouldn’t the bigger long-term goal be more housing *and* more hotels? Rather than just managing scarcity?
The answer is still no, but:

"It’s hard not to connect this to the fact that much of the political class remains on a platform now dominated by the political extremes. They might do well to remember: Twitter is not the real world."
The platform formerly known as Twitter may be horrible, but it is still shaping policy. So were we all wrong to leave?
Was the left wrong to leave X for BlueSky?

Pixel's magic eraser went from great to absolute suckage with the last feature drop. Is this another symptom of Alphabet enshittifiying? Will it somehow boost profits in the short term? Or did they lay off the team responsible for it to save on capex?
