Sh*t's goin' down in Boston, and the Devil deals the cards. In the pocket of Big Dame. Wo aber Gefahr ist, wächst das Rettende auch.

I'm telling myself this is the bit where it looks as if all is lost but the heroes persevere.
Same reason they use "phenomena" as the singular & "phenomenon" as the plural, or say "come to the bus stop with Jane & I" instead of "come to the bus stop with Jane & me".
All of the stuff he's doing, if you tried describing it to, like, Andy Griffith, he'd think you were a crank!
The thing is, my Mom & the other seventy-somethings in my town are able to do as much to fight these people (in terms of protesting or donating to the suffering & helpless) as I am & they don't know about the whole groyper "it's gay for a man to enjoy having sex with a woman" thing.
I've kind of been On One today which is partly because my ankle is killing me & partly because I forgot to turn on my SAD light this morning.
We got their catalog today. I can perhaps justify getting one of those Boston Stamp Show t-shirts with the fact that I was in college 25 years ago so all my "cool" graphic tees are going under the arms, & the fabric's so worn that if I mend them they just rip again.
I love the USPS but a stamp honoring William F Buckley is like a whiskey honoring Carry Nation.

Dude hated the public good!

It's incredible that he's like "you can't burn the flag, it's sacred, anyone who burns our beautiful flag is GOING TO JAIL!" and then he just tears down a whole wall of the fucking white house
People participating in today's Discourse are saying "I bet you wouldn't give up your Spotify & listen to CDs or vinyl, nyah nyah" & sir, I cannot give up my Spotify for the same reason I cannot give up my beach house or my pony.
"What is love?" said jesting Haddaway, and would not stay for an answer.
(Deliberately calling myself out with all three of these by the way.)
Drunks have a revealed preference for booze, hoarders have a revealed preference for not being able to see the floor in their house, slatterns have a revealed preference for cobwebs, not all revealed preferences are good & often they are things people should get support in *not* preferring.

I think bookstores are magical so I shop at them; I think gambling is the Devil's work so I don't gamble; I think going for a little walk is good for you so I go for little walks; I'm allowed to go online & promulgate this behavior.
Usual suspects who complain "the kids are cooked from mainlining ideological mush on TikTok & the older people are cooked from mainlining AI-generated-Heaven-knows-what on Facebook" now complaining at people who suggest there should be a little friction in how we obtain information & entertainment.
Stumbling over some book or film by chance is more likely to expand your mental horizons than dutifully watching what the algorithm chooses for you.
I’m gonna counterpoint this one: browsing was part of the fun. And browsing in the physical world is different from browsing in the virtual world.

The things that sucked about Blockbuster were primarily late fees and it being hard to find a new release on a Friday night.
Yeah, I think I see the problem here - it's not that the video store was good, it's that you miss being a teenager
It's a pity the only thing that paper ever fires anyone for is saying mildly snarky things about Marie Kondo.
When people steal from museums they are stealing from you.
Am I...loopy? Everyone is so excited & happy about how art & artifacts that were in a museum where everybody could enjoy them are now in secret private hands, probably passing to some morally hideous oligarch.

Something beautiful was where regular people could go look at it & now it's gone.
While I am on this tack, the hospital where my Mom had her appointment had all these purple flags outside for people who'd died of opioid overdoses & I'm sure their hearts are in the right place but it's like Wendy's having a display to remember victims of clogged arteries.
Where's the Drugdash guy who cuts corners when you need him?
If drug abuse is so bad for you why don't any of these people ever die?

Everyone says they're all coked up like a value meal!

One reason all our politicians are octogenarians is because when they were saying stupid and potentially damning things in their thirties they were doing it over a round of drinks at the Alibi Club, not in public on the giant permanent digital archive of all things ever said.

If you aren't happy single, you won't be happy taken. Happiness comes from Star Trek, not relationships.
To pay the "post about something good that happened today" tax, my Mom & I went to the quilt display at the Town Historical Society, we had a walk, I grilled resulting in a good dinner tonight & meal-prepped veg for the week, & because of Walktober I think my calves are getting a little toned.
