Public health is invisible to most people until something goes wrong. This administration's destruction of vital systems guarantees more sickness and death.

The fruits of NHANES are shared with the public as well as within other federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration. There is nothing flashy about the regular NCHS reports, which scrupulously avoid speculation or even discussion in articles gleaned from survey answers supplemented by patient metrics obtained in mobile exam centers.

Like much of public health work, that labor is invisible — you don’t see the infection you didn’t get. Data gathering is even further from the spotlight, so by extension, the people planning how to gather and share this data work even further behind the scenes.

The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.
