This is the longest piece I've written in a while, a summary of four works that grabbed me over the past month. Come for One Battle After Another or Taylor Swift, hopefully stay for Spike Lee and Cameron Winter.

I went and did this.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner
elordi gets one moment that really channels this with the dynamite - also one of my favorite beats in the movie. that moment even plays nicely with the sympathetic reading, but i wish that version of the character came out more
i don't personally take issue with del toro's overwhelming sympathy for the creature (it's such a common reading at this point) but i do always vastly prefer to read frankenstein as the monstrousness of mankind and victor's total indifference creating a sadistic demon
I wish I liked Guillermo Del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN more, because I tend to love adaptations of this story. I think it's only partially successful, because the monster's appearance and behavior don't create enough contradictions for our empathy to be challenged.

morally uncomplicated, i will be rooting for the demon of the diamond
think it'll have decent legs into next week, too, mostly for lack of competition. can't imagine shelby oaks can fully capture the horror audience the weekend before halloween, and the other wider releases seem weak too

zohran promos are competency porn - i have not seen people this good at talking into the camera and disintegrating their opposition since the attitude era

there's a kind of action gameplay that only itagaki could ever successfully communicate - the way characters hit one another in itagaki games is singular. gone too soon
Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki has died, age 58

rewatched us and the extent to which my wife knew nothing about the film was a delight
they know the bracket is going to crash their servers
it's been a slow burn but i think it'll get there eventually - can't wait to see magellan myself
one of few games that actually fulfills the promise of what gaming offers narrative storytelling by actually telling a magnificent story in a way only a game can. an all-time favorite

over a year old lol
like i am not exaggerating. it’s not an optional or one day feature, if this is a serious social media platform that wants to function similarly to Old Twitter, they gotta drop everything and implement private accounts like. tomorrow. they’re core to the social fabric of being online!
really don't expect to see a full transition from twitter until we can have locked accounts and group DMs, but we are officially at the "you are taking a risk still having a public account" point over there. and, tbh, private accounts there are probably not as safe as you think!

Just putting out there that anyone being a scold about people wanting to keep in touch with their friends before this all happened is getting an instant block. It doesn't seem like anyone likes the CEO here either
Brace for inevitable "I can't quit Twitter here's why you're a bad person for suggesting it" replies
twitter in particular has become such a walled garden that getting linked to a tweet on facebook or discord is just miserable. this place isn't quite as bad as that yet, but if you want to link to a thread or conversation, forget it
