It has officially gotten too cold for us to leave the sliding back door open a bit for Penny to come and go as she pleases.

Which means I either have to buy a side door that can have a dog door installed (our current one has too much frippery) or use some power tools and make a sliding door insert.

You could almost feel sorry for him if he weren't such an unspeakable turd. He clearly practiced for these moments. He studied. Probably did mock interviews with staff. He doesn't understand why it works for Trump, who is objectively unhinged, and not him.

I'm not saying the man has never had a bad take, but he is a professional. And I honestly think Vance got under his skin. But I don't think he had any intention of walking out of that interview without an answer to the question when he started. It was clear he was ready to worry that bone.

Vance thought he'd get away with it because SO MANY journalists have been letting this administration get away with it. He didn't know how to handle it. He was visibly more and more upset, and he wasn't even the one being insulted. The tone of that last "George!" is of a man begging.

Vance agreed to do this interview on this topic. Stephanopoulos did his due diligence. He asked the question five times. When it became clear that Vance was not going to answer it, he simply ended the interview. Politely, even. You don't get to use my news show to sit there and insult me.

Vance insults G.S. and implies that he's not only unethical and lying, but simply bad at interviews. The audacity of the most mediocre white man who's ever failed upward saying that to George goddamn Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos gave a masterclass in interviewing right over the top of him.

Stephanopoulos then turns to camera 1 or whatever the camera is when he's back to presenting rather than interviewing, and goes into "up next" as Vance stutters and tries to get "George" to come talk to him more.

Vance actually does make a credible effort, of a type that has worked for this admin again and again, to redirect the conversation. These stories are made up to discredit us, you're focusing on something small and not talking about the 'real issues', why don't you do better journalism.

Stephanopoulos does one final attempt, recapping the fact that the FBI tape exists and what it contains, and then asking Vance if he knows whether Homan kept that money.

Vance claims he is a wittle baby who knows nothing and the big bad left wing media is so MEAN it's so mean of you to even ask.

Weird phrasing, but basically: did he accept a bribe? Dunno, maybe, who can say. But he definitely didn't break the law, for sure. Which I'd know. Because I know nothing about this.

Vance then reiterates that whether $50,000 was bandied about in some way, Homan definitely didn't do anything illegal.

Stephanopoulos, the last journalist on earth, asks his question again. Did Homan accept the money he was heard accepting on the FBI tape or not.

This is a fun obfuscation tactic. Did he accept that $50,000? Well I'm sure he has been given $50,000 at some point in his life sometime, what a silly thing to get hung up about. Haven't we all been paid $50,000 at various points, audience? Yeah of course, so what're you upset about?

JD was not ready for this pushback and repeats exactly what he said the first time: ad nauseum, no bribe. Then he adds: I'm sure Homan has been paid more than $50k SOMETIME.

Stephanopoulos, because he has more than a few brain cells to rub together, notices with impeccable journalistic instincts that this does not answer his question, and also suggests the facts are not the facts.

Rather than backing down like a chump, however, he reaffirms the facts and asks again.

Vance has clearly been studying Trump's approach because he kicks off immediately by personally attacking Stephanopoulos.

You've covered the story ad nauseum, he says. Tom Homan did not accept a bribe, and you're only saying he did because you're mad at him for doing a good job as border czar.

Genuinely been so proud of my adopted city through all of this. I grew up in the Bay and my standards for civil resistance are high. Portland doesn't do anything the way Oakland or Berkeley or SF would do it, but they do it in their own unique, silly-goose way and goddamn it, they mean it.
