If you're considering following me, bear in mind that I'm a social butterfly, both in research (as a bioinformatician), and on social media. If there's news I want to spread, I'll repost a woman's report of it (if possible). "Like" means I like something, and have read it.

Now this is a clear rejection! Thank you MIT

GOOD!

MIT officially rejects the compact/loyalty oath for higher ed. That’s 1 of 9. I hope we see many more announcements today.

While airing your pet peeve *at* someone was rude, you made it much worse by standing on that hill and declaring that you were right and everyone else was wrong, even the language experts.

With that context, all those "nuh uh" statements just make you seem even more like a big jerk.

That's what I'm doing right now. When you're being told by hosts of actual linguists, people who work with language and its role in society professionally, that your behavior here was problematic, it might make sense to take a step back and consider if this is actually a role you want to play.

Well that's exactly the issue: if you give this kind of unsolicited advice, you are positioning yourself hierarchically. The appropriate context for corrections of this type is between parents and children, teachers and students: i.e. hierarchical relationships.

“You accidentally made a sexual innuendo”? Absolutely tell me.

“You violated a grammar rule that most native speakers on the street could ostensibly make themselves”? Miss me with that.

“If I were speaking a second language I’d want someone to tell me”

Respectfully, as someone who grew up in a multilingual family, things like this are so nitpicky that they almost become a microaggression against the non-native speaker.

As someone just popping into this thread and who has an almost pathological dislike of grammar policing, I’ve always taken the stance that if you can otherwise clearly understand what the speaker meant then who the hell cares what’s “proper” or not? It’s ultimately unsolicited advice.
gringene.org
If you're gonna be a pretentious jerk about the English Language, you should be prepared to have criticism lofted back at you in return.

It is not surprising that people didn't like your tone policing, nor that you felt a strong desire to die on that hill, nor that you have a thin skin.

A series of schematics, each with one illustration of the system without tetracycline (or dox) and one with tetracycline present. Left (TetR): without tetracycline, the TetR protein binds to DNA at the tetO site and transcription of the downstream gene is blocked; with tetracycline bound, TetR releases from the DNA and transcription occurs. Center (Tet-Off): without tetracycline, the tTA binds to DNA at the TRE and enhances transcription of the downstream gene; with tetracycline bound, tTA releases from the TRE and transcription halts. Right (Tet-On): without tetracycline, the rtTA does not bind to the TRE and transcription halts; with tetracycline bound, rtTA binds the TRE and enhances transcription of the downstream gene.

Not just a typo; there was also clear grammatical carelessness.

No, it's correct English too, Iris.

This is a dated and pedantic rule that should only be considered when arguing with a paid copy editor over house style, if then.
