Americans are fond of talking up their constitution, but a system in which the President can pardon anyone they want of any crime with no explanation, or where ordinary government workers don't get paid (but parliamentarians do) when government is in gridlock, is frankly a total shitshow.

Some people bitch about the universal TV licence fee, but it's much better model. For £15 a month I get tons of high quality BBC output. For £13 I get all of Netflix. So when a creator wants £4 for their hour-long fortnightly podcast because only 1% pay, it feels disproportionately expensive.

It won't be easy, but you can't look at one of the foundation stones of the whole problem and just shrug and say "that's too hard". If we can't stop the global kleptocracy, we have to find a way for the money they siphon out of our country to be adequately taxed.

I'm unclear about the consequences of the Gaza deal. If it holds, do Israel's leaders get a free pass for their genocidal acts? How long will it have to last before their slate is wiped clean (longer than 9 days, I'd guess)? Or could they still be charged by the ICJ in any case?

You're right in that the changes we need are immense. But rebalancing taxation - and preferably also rebalancing INCOME, such as returning the ratio of CEO pay to average worker pay to something like it was 30 or 40 years ago - is a vital first step.
