yes yes yes to all of this. material politics is the way forward and that doesn’t mean slogans it means the very difficult work of being a real presence in the lives of the people who you want to trust you.
It doesn’t matter what I think. Also, none of this would ever happen. But if I had a zillion dollars:

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…
If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.
"In 2004, you saw some college guy using me and thought, “What a lazy cheater.”

Now you’d think, “At least he’s not asking Gemini.”

In a few years, you’ll say, “Wow, look, a human being who can read.”"
just wanted to thank you for wading in & to tell you that i laughed out loud at this particularly part of the exchange!
No, i did not look at the author, i should not have assumed their gender, my bad. Re: everything else - i refer you to my earlier comment
iow, more women -> lower-quality research, repression of freedom and truth, bad handling of conflict. Sure "of course we still need women in academia" but it's because he considers some quality loss acceptable in return for a kinder work environment.
The paper blames the "ascendancy of women" in academia for:
"Increased preference for equity over merit-based hierarchy
Increased prioritization of harm-avoidance over academic freedom and pursuit of truth
Increased ostracism in response to conflict (think “cancel culture”)"
I honestly don't know why you seem so very invested in trying to rescue/legitimise an article proposing that women don't belong in academia because of biology. It is not an effort I am interested in being part of
Oké dit vrolijkte me op :)
The Dutch still love themselves some fascism despite the previous gov's many fuckups. No one should be feeling complacent or triumphant here, all of us need to fight more than ever.
On the “defeat” of the far right in the Netherlands 🇳🇱

The total number of far-right seats in the Tweede Kamer:

2021: 28
2023: 41
2025: 42 👈

And I don’t even count BBB here, which has radicalized significantly in the last year.
By failing to mention that the 11 ex-PVV seats have all gone to other far right parties (including 6 seats for FvD which is *even more fascist* than PVV) you are creating the misconception that the Dutch have collectively rejected fascism and saved democracy. Please be more responsible.

With the official prognosis giving one additional seat to PVV and one to FvD compared to the ext poll, the narrative should really not be that the Netherlands/Jetten has beaten the radical right. The far right bloc remains remarkably stable.
It is maddening to see my timeline full of internationals completely misinterpreting the Dutch election results. The 4(!) parties whose programmes were found to adhere to the rule of law (no red proposals in the graph below) together have 27 seats our of 150. The ones w/ more red than green: 71
