I don't think free speech on campus ought to mean that a young coddled bigot gets to use their ignorance to casually destroy the career of a knowledgeable trans person on a random Wednesday
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

yeah I mean it’s genuinely sad that the “reasonable old school” Republican (who Dems eagerly and unanimously voted to confirm) is out here doing pressers blatantly geeked out coke and it’s not subtle

I am, quite honestly, absolutely OUTRAGED at what a collective media failure this is.

Sensationalized it-bleeds-it-leads fearmongering combined w who-cares-if-the-bleeding-stops indifference weaponizes crime in ways Trump has repeatedly exploited.

These declines are MASSIVE.

And the comparative silence in media coverage is absolutely DAMNING.

“Why are ppl always so afraid of crime?”

THIS is why. When crime goes up, media trips over itself to report it.

Falls to pre-war (!!) levels? Just CRICKETS.
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

Weiss gushed about the popularity of Bukele, and how safe he’s made the Central American nation – without noting he’s suspended basic civil liberties, been accused of making deals with gang leaders, and thrown thousands of people in jail without giving them a fair trial.

The case Pam Bondi brought against Rep McIver in New Jersey isn't going well for DOJ. In discovery, a DHS employee gloats over having assaulted McIver, while other messages show DHS officers using racist slurs against the New Jersey congresswoman.

2025 has been a shitty, scary, and downright terrible year.

But D.C. is still the same beautiful city, full of resilient, organized, smart, and compassionate people.

I am about as "give every student the benefit of the doubt" as you can be, but eff this student. Willfully setting up a TA and professor; nakedly lying to destroy others' careers; shamelessly cashing in with the right-wing grievance complex. What a miserable person. I hope she never graduates.
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get

In the past week, I've seen stories of AI:
- being used by middle schoolers to make porn of other students
- calling innocent people sex offenders
- shutting down highways with busted-ass self-driving cars
- emitting more CO2 than New York City

What the fuck are we even doing?
New from me: The storied fiddler Ashley MacIsaac wanted to play a show at a Nova Scotia First Nation. It got cancelled because Google's AI search summary incorrectly called him a sex offender. Now he's worried for his safety www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/arti...

like, "trump bought a teen pageant so he could creep on girls in the dressing room" is an established thing he just said on the radio

but all the fancy people are like, "i'll pretend i don't know that," because they live in an epistemic bubble where no one's *really* a rapist til they're cast out
there is a lot of value in mapping out epstein's entire network of rapist associates, but it's kinda painful how much we have *always* known trump is a pedo rapist and all of the discourse about him is just fishing for some kind of special signifier that makes it ok for powerful people to say it now
