When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

Roger Stone & Matt Schlapp were banging on the doors in Miami to stop the vote count (The Brooks Brothers Riot).

Meanwhile, John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett were on W's legal team drafting the legal arguments to make sure those votes in Florida never counted.
literally the same people who also stole an election!! real two-for-one accepting-the-indefensible thing there

i've been thinking about this again after seeing some anti-options posting (players will ruin their experience with savestates / difficulty settings / credit feeding etc.) and to be a bit pretentious, i feel like part of "game literacy" is learning how and when options like that will benefit you
i generally think it's a good thing for a game to be book-like, in the sense that you can flip to any "page" (game state) relatively unimpeded, which i feel is a more radical position on difficulty than "dark souls should have easy mode"

One of the best worldbuilding guides you can read is Tolkien's notes on translation, where he talks about the fact that *everything* you write is in practice being translated into English; is is no more anachronistic to use the word "September" than it is use the word "sword" or "house" or "hello".
Not sure how I feel when a book tells me that instead of "12 months" they have "10 arcs," which are each 40 days long, and they all have names like Blossomarc, Flamearc Snowarc,.... I appreciate the world building, but couldnt we have just kept the calendar the same?

my pro tip is that if you find it grating to say "july" just say something like "midsummer" instead of some fantasy hogwash

apparently there was a coup in guinea-bissau and right now everyone is arguing about whether it was a real military coup or a "simulated"/"ceremonial" one to invalidate an election

i am an orders-of-magnitude less prolific a player than Paul, but this post really speaks to me:

when i see a tabletop rpg that's like "deluxe book! special stuff! we made this one real pretty for you!" i kinda reflexively assume it's gonna be ~ dogshit

My favorite ludicrous New Yorker style is that they print initialisms in full caps but acronyms (initialisms pronounced as words) in small caps, so in the days of CD-ROMs, they'd write the word like this:

But to your point, there's no level of sycophancy that would result in Trump deeming them fair. There have been several times over the years where he's raged against Fox News, even.

Maybe ABC, CBS, and WaPo like being denounced by the White House, at least a little, because they can use that to say they’re not biased in Trump’s favor despite all the objective evidence that they are. Good point.
I think they probably welcome it. They're all hopelessly biased in Trump's favor but having the WH call them out as somehow being "anti-Trump" is brand management for them

The White House’s new anti-media website includes denunciations of:

-ABC, which bribed the president
-CBS, which bribed the president and moved away from fact-based journalism trying to appeal to him and his fans
-WaPo, which spiked a Harris endorsement and tilts coverage in Trump’s favor

Fools.

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

And the best thing you can do is ask the grunts not to follow illegal orders. What about your part of the bargain?
