Most modern drilling operations use water or mud. They also have filtration and tanks onsite to remove a lot of suspended solids before the fluid is sent on for reuse or disposal.

And it all comes out at once.

Sometimes it feels like I'm turning my brain upside down and hitting the bottom like it's a stuck ketchup bottle, thinking what I want out of it is all spent, but oh hey there's actually more than I thought in there, huh.

I hate this fucking timeline.

That Pittsburgh is still here. And if that Pittsburgh shows up…

Well. We’ve been here before. She knows what to do.
hertinkness.bsky.social
But we’ve been here before. The National Guard has been deployed to Pittsburgh for civil unrest in the past. 1877, the Pennsylvania Railroad Strike. 1892, Homestead. 1902, Pressed Steel Car.

There’s a reason those guys came prepared for a riot. We haven’t forgotten.

And yeah, it was a fun day. We all got t shirts, had a nice walk downtown on a beautiful day, and then got pizza. It was a party and everyone treated it as such.

It’s been a few years since I walked in it, but there’s usually a big turnout. One of the big participants that year in particular was the carpenters union. They all had signs to carry around.

The signs were all attached to… either 1x2 or 1x3 pine boards, it’s been a while.

I’ve been thinking about this, and I think this could go one of two ways. The first is this. The second is usually on display at the Labor Day parade. 🧵

if the national guard and ICE goons ever get deployed to Pittsburgh, i think we should all dress up like Mister Rogers in cardigans and Keds, or characters from his show.

imagine the optics of cowardly bullies pointing rifles at people cosplaying the kindest person & characters in history

Things I say to my dog as if they will be understood:

"Peanut, the point of the walk is to walk. It's not to find the smelliest stuff in the neighborhood."

This is Clio. She did not study for the test today. Also does not know how to read. 12/10 (IG: paspastotoro)
a black and gray long-haired yorkiepoo sits at a desk in a university classroom. a piece of paper lays on the desk in front of her, her paws propped up on the desk as if she's bracing herself. there are students in the background hunched over and working on paper in front of them. the pup looks at the camera with a concerned side eye. she's realizing she probably should have read some of the homework before eating it.

Nature is our source and our sustenance. We are a part of Nature – not the head and not the center, but one part among many. We are connected to all the other parts and all of them are connected to us. Nature is not fallen – Nature is good and holy.

So we don't have a state budget or a federal budget, which is not actually what we meant when we said "become ungovernable."

The Triassic was a time of weird reptiles of every description.

This is one of the more recent finds: Mirasaura from France. It's one of the drepanosaurs, an odd group of arboreal reptiles with superficially bird-like heads and, in some cases, equally superficially feather-like appendages.
A slightly cartoony illustration of a Mirasaura sitting on a mossy tree branch. The lizard-like animal has a long snout resembling a bird's beak, large eyes and a massive crest on its' back somewhat resembling a birds' wing feathers, as if someone stuck an entire wader's wing into his back. The animal has large eyes and it looking behnd him at a passing dragonfly.

Wife brought her 100 year old film camera to that pirates game from a few weeks ago and she got this shot that's just perfect
A black and white photo of a baseball game, you can see that it is mid pitch with a pirate at bat
