This story is free to read, like all WIRED stories based on FOIA.
Confidential records obtained by WIRED & @propertyofthepeople.org show the ag industry deploying moles to infiltrate activist meetings, while functionally serving as FBI informants, in a shadow campaign to brand the animal rights movement America's biggest bioterrorism threat.

My latest @wired.com:
How the Farm Industry Spied on Animal Rights Activists and Pushed the FBI to Treat Them as Terrorists
For years, a powerful โ€˜Big Agโ€™ trade group served up information on activists to the FBI. Records reveal a decade-long effort to see the animal rights movement labeled a legitimate terrorism threat.

I have seen quite a few people say โ€œthe Germans should be forgivenโ€ and as someone who has walked the grounds of Dachau twice, I am fucking appalled. The lesson should be that echoes of violence reverberate in every direction, and the goal should be to stop the echoes, not take turns having revenge.

A few years ago, I saw an interview with a a Likud party member - I don't remember her name, she was a middle aged woman - who said that young American Jews were insufficiently appreciative of Israel and the way to remedy this was by making what she called "Israeli policy in Judea and Samaria"
I fall asleep every night critiquing the Ghorman Front in my head

Might help if rewinding a Disney+ video ten seconds didnโ€™t take twenty seconds.
I've been trying to figure out why Andor โ€” a prestige series set in the Star Wars universe โ€”ย hasn't captured casual viewers while similar genre shows like Game of Thrones and Last of Us were able to do so.

Is it Star Wars fatigue? Has the brand become synonymous with mediocre output?
It bums me out to no end that so many people watched the first season of Ashoka, a *shockingly* poorly made series, compared to the Acolyte (not always great but trying to do something interesting) and Andor

"Drawing borders on a map might make a fellow feel powerful and important. But to become a big important Empire fellow, you have to accept borders drawn all around inside your head too...

...Empire requires that women be womenly and men be manly."
New Gist: Trans rights are Data rights

An unusually long Gist on the data protection implications of the UK Supreme Court's decision to define what is the meaning of the word 'woman' in a single UK Act.

(Also: the CJEU, colonialism, Joyce's Ulysses and Sinn Fรฉin)

The Gist: Trans rights are Data rights
A UK court has made a decision defining genders which has put it at odds with a less noticed, more important, decision from the CJEU. This is the Gist.

Our political/ecological problems are social problems.
tweet-length sound bites and zingers do not an antifascist revolution make (reminding myself and you)

appeals to emotion are for marketers & consumers. long-form analysis + grass-touching are for comrades.
