are we seriously doing revisionist history for tron on the tl rn? like yeah both it and legacy are cult classics but legacy made 400 million in the box office! that's not a sign of unpopularity, people wanted to see this movie!

On a serious note, the last Tron movie grossed $400 million and Disney opened a hugely popular Tron ride relatively recently, so there’s an audience there. I think this particular movie just didn’t come across as particularly compelling.

Was it covid? Do people just not like science fiction? etc. etc.

The main reason is pretty obvious: Tron isn't a popular franchise. Nobody's interested in nostalgia for a failed 1980s project.

I guarantee with almost any other actor besides Jared Leto, Tron: Ares would've went bonkers.

The commonality of the failings of every project he's been involved in is HIM.

People would have LOVED a new Tron, especially with a NIN soundtrack, but using Leto amidst nerds is self-sabotage.
