It would be unthinkable in film today, but it takes OVER AN HOUR for the Cenobites to appear in Hellraiser other than extremely brief glimpses. It’s a remarkable level of restraint that makes their arrival feel absolutely monumental.

Hellraiser 2 is batshit in the best way. III is a big step down but IMO still enjoyable. IV is an interesting idea but studio meddling made it subpar even compared to the first three. Everything after IV is garbage, except for the remake which was quite good

Weapons has no such complexity, the villain is simply an evil conniving and wholly unimaginative witch. There’s nothing about Gladys that indicates we need to look deeper. I’m not even sure what this movie wanted to say, other than witches bad and scary

Spoilers for Barbarian and Weapons: Barbarian was very frank in its depiction of toxic masculinity. The “monster” was anything but, just a poor girl brought into the world through horrible circumstances and the film rightly shows us that she is as much a victim as the people she attacks.
