I genuinely do not and never will understand how people work themselves up into being angry about non assimilationist groups of people in the US. Like I just straight up don't care and to the extent I do I often just think it's actually kind of cool.

That happened for a few reasons. 🧵

First, it became associated with gatekeeper doctors and transmedicalists. As these groups became hated, so too did their language.
its strange to me because i have always used transsexual and still dont understand why ppl deviated from such

need to have a big trans conference where we hash out terminology for ourselves proper on our own terms

They're actually open for comment now, before they're released via a seemingly-little-reported-on process our coverage discusses.

It's called an EO 12866 meeting and any member of the US public can request one.

We seem to have covered this before Pink News, Assigned Media, LGBTQ Nation, NPR, Erin in the Morning, or Indiana Public Radio. Our EIC also didn't find any other local Indiana news covering this- most Indiana BMV news seems to be focused on a government press release about "text scams"
also, porn categories names are misleading on purpose.
to the general public of the time, there was no real distinction between trans, transgender, transgender, or even crossdresser. The concepts were all blurred, even more than they are now.
We fear you just as much as we fear Trump and Co. You are just as much of a threat to us as they are.
In the field of biology, we have learned more about cross-sex HRT in the last 5 years than the previous 50. its a genuine revolution in the field.
This association of the term with elitism has lingered to this day, even as practical meaning of the word has become wildly different.
Lastly, back in the 90s/00s, we didn't fully understand that HRT changes sex in the way that we do now. As a result, the term was only being used for people who had bottom surgery. Since that was usually the well off, the term was seen as elitist.
Second, LGBT Inc organizations began to encourage people to use the word transgender instead, as a means of organizing a number of groups who often had little in common. This was done because having people under one label was more convenient when applying for grant money.

Knowing this, transsexual has come to mean anyone who takes HRT to change their sex.

For example, anyone of cross-sex hormones, such as trans women and trans men, are transsexuals.

Hope that helps.
The word transsexual used to only apply to people who were approved by doctors and who changed their genitals. Back then, people assumed that sex = genitals. As we learn more, we find new ways that HRT changes a person's sex just as much as bottom surgery does.

Back in July when they did this, we beat the Indiana government with our massive pushback. Now we need to do it again, with even greater force. Let's secure the right to our own IDs, Hoosiers! Comment on the BMV website Nd make plans to show up in person on Nov 14th!

BMV Reopens Opposed Ban on Gender Marker Changes | IYG
Despite strong opposition from Hoosiers, the Indiana BMV has reintroduced their previously withdrawn ban on gender marker changes on state IDs.
