Through October 18, water levels have already spent 102 hours above the minor flood threshold at Virginia Key near #Miami... and the year isn't over yet.
In 2019, the full-year tally was a record-smashing 154 hours, and that record is likely in jeopardy in the coming weeks.

A total of 3.7 million square kilometres, an area larger than India, was burned by wildfires globally in 2024/25.

The researchers found that global warming increased burning in Pantanal, Chiquitano and Amazon, releasing billions of tonnes of CO2.

This morning my ChatGPT quota was inexplicably exhausted.

It took a while but I pieced it together. Voice mode somehow got activated when I went to bed.

The bot then engaged in a 10 hour conversation with my snoring dog, answering questions the pup wasn’t asking and praising him for his insight.

The place we purchased had many ‘ bird trap’ features in outbuildings and alcoves. I tore down most of the outbuildings- still working on that- and punched holes or removed barriers in the nooks that trapped. Thank you for taking care of these remains treasures

Ouch. Last year we had no fruit. This year no plums or peaches and very few pears. Only the older wild apple trees really put out. And the Duchess. She seems to reliably produce; no watering, no fertilizer, no pruning- great genetics, sweet as ever.

Wow! Amazing apples this year. I only use a coddle moth trap of molasses and water. But no blemishes, few worm holes. But here’s the thing. The traps are empty. Even for the few unlucky insects who also get trapped. Nothing. Zero. Nada. No bugs

Now the confirmation came in that highly toxic Psuedo nitzschia species are distributed from pole to pole (1). They produce the neurotoxin domoic acid a highly potent neurotoxin which is highly persistent in the water column The danger is that we get a neurotoxic hydrological cycle as these toxins are mixed into the air. For example in one event frogs could have been killed by neurotoxic rain on an Island in the Gulf of Mexico Its an important precondition that we get a neurotoxic ocean with toxic species spreading also across the open oceans. When nutrient deposition events of dust and wildfire soot will increase with marine heatwaves leading to food webs that retain nutrients and particular matter in the upper water column such a development could fuel toxic blooms of Pseudo nitschia across the global oceans (1). Conclusions Our findings confirm that temperature is a key driver of domoic acid (DA) contamination and support the notion that toxin-producing Pseudo-nitzschia species are nearly ubiquitous across global ocean basins. Thus, virtually the entire ocean is potentially at risk if climate change promotes increases in Pseudo-nitzschia growth and toxicity. Global models warn that increasingly prolific and toxic bloom events must be expected under a continuously warming ocean. We have the Old Order Swartzentruber Amish primarily in our area. My friend appears quite poor given the farm implements I’ve seen him use. But nearby other Orders are quite wealthy. Their focus points out our human abuses starkly.
