Switzerland embraces stereotypes of Switzerland. Indeed, they seem generally accurate, if out of proportion and missing many common details.

Just another traffic- calmed street in #Zürich, this one in Oerlikon. Trees planted on varying sides create chicanes, benches invite lingering, polkadot remind drivers to slow down. Neighbors say space fills with kids and adults on weekends.

Playground mountains, for climbing in many different ways. #Zürich

The city of #Zürich replaced a parking lot with riverside seating, opened just a few weeks ago. Even on a chilly fall day, if the sun is out it fills up!

Today marks yet another day that Speaker Mike Johnson has denied Adelita Grijalva her right to govern.

She won her special election on Sept 23rd but has yet to be sworn in.

Why? Because she will become the 218th vote needed to discharge the release of the Epstein files.

This is what I found when I returned to my #Zürich apt in the late afternoon. I leaned over a 150cm high pile of metal plates to take the pic. Accessibility is not even an afterthought. 2/2

Another cross-cultural surprise today, this is what I found when exiting my #Zürich apt this morning. I needed to reach the gate on the far end. 1/2

A narrow gap between two buildings that is filled with piles of metal, the parts of an as yet inbuilt scaffolding. Stacks of flat metal panels, piles of metal pipes. There is no clear path.

Doing everything with consultants has so many drawbacks. I would love to work for a government agency that is staffed to do capital work itself for a while. Just to see how much of a difference it makes.

Newly noticed Jugenstil details and mural in central #Zürich

Jugendstil arched doorway in red stone with an arched lit set of windows showing yellow walls and a mural above. Between arch and windows the entire red stone panel is carved with fine swirling patterns, around a large brass plate that reads "Ringhof." Peering closely, the yellow mural is a larger than life road cyclist pressing hard.

This street in old #Zürich used to carry 20,000 cars a day. Since it became (mostly) car-free 20+ years ago it's most full off pedestrians, bikes, and trams.

A street with a pair of tram rails, a few bicyclists, and lots of people walking. One car is parked. The street is open on one side and has 5-story historic buildings on the other. It's sunny with a few clouds in the blue sky.

After walking past 100 times, I just noticed that this brick (left column)was laid with a recess to house the downspout.

Yellow brick building with orange brick accents. There are matching columns on either side of vertically stacked windows. In the left one, the brick was laid with a small vertical cavity just big enough for the copper downspout that is now installed in the recess.
