Great piece from @brucearthur.bsky.social @thestar.com about the bird flu ostrich circus.

The economic and scientific issues concern me a lot, but for me, it all comes back to this: the US is where it is now because public health was politicized & exploited to undermine democracy & the rule of law.
“I mean, the economic security issues that it would create in terms of potentially s——canning our entire poultry export market would be devastating for Canada. But the real underlying issue is this anti-government belief that these public health orders are optional, and we don’t want government regulation.

“That is why they have so much attention, and why Rebel News and this entire far-right media ecosystem is involved ... is to weaken, basically, government sovereignty. And this is exactly the kind of thing that happened in the U.S.”

Other than the distractingly bad CGI used to recreate a young Jeff Bridges, I thought Tron: Legacy was decent enough. As a concept it's reach exceeded it's grasp by a little bit, but there are worse ways to kill two hours.

At a certain point, malice and stupidity become indistinguishable from one another. Don't let the clownish behavior of imbeciles lull you into a false sense of complacency regarding their willingness and capacity to break things, foment chaos and cause harm.

Without immigration, Dawson Creek would be a community in decline. I appreciate governments across the country are desperate to change the channel regarding their failure to build housing and increase capacity for public services over the last 50 years, but scapegoating immigrants ain't it.
Conservatives want to end birthright citizenship for children of temporary residents
The Conservatives want to restrict birthright citizenship in Canada, a measure they say would mirror the rules in peer countries.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Randomized controlled trials are a key tool to study cause and effect. Why do they matter and how do they work?

So much mystique around serials killers revolves around the myth that they evade capture for so long because they're smart and calculating. This is false. What makes them hard to catch is that they have no discernable motive. Most are shown to be stupid, vicious, and have poor impulse control.

Hot take, perhaps - serial killer biopics suck. There's no one thing that defines these people and why they did what they did, and trying to find it is an egotistic exercise. I outgrew serial killer mythology in 9th grade. I suggest Hollywood do that too.

There will be people who try to downplay this and suggest it was an unforeseeable tragedy that nobody could've seen coming. Don't believe them.

This is the inevitable consequence of pandering to anti-vaccine sentiments.

These lies and conspiracies always eventually come with a body count.

Sad to hear about the passing of the Michelangelo of Movie posters, RENATO CASARO. The Man painted so many iconic posters, specially in the 70s/80s: CONAN, TERMINATOR, DUNE, TOTAL RECALL, DANCE WITH THE WOLVES, BLOW OUT, FLASH GORDON, RAMBO, NEVER-ENDING STORY, and the list goes on and on. 1/2
