The right demonizes cities as cesspits of crime but I lived in Chicago for 7 years; the one time I've been mugged was in an affluent little Ohio suburb.

(The first line of "Try That in a Small Town" is "Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk" which is literally what happened to me, in a small town.)

As a sophomore creative writing major, I once visited my college's career counselor, scared I wouldn't be employable & the response was, "Look, your generation, there's no certainty no matter what; might as well study something you like." Honestly, the best advice I ever got from a career counselor.

Due in part to cuts from above, the GCAC has sadly had to suspend their artist grant programs for 2025. I know there are many talented artists in my region who could make great things with a little support, and I hope the GCAC's budget is soon restored by future leaders who get the value of art.
