Just finished watching Art of Persia on BBC iPlayer from a couple of years ago by @samiraahmeduk.bsky.social. What an amazing insight into ancient Persia right up to the modern day.

I did know of the Achaemenids, but I did not know of the Shahnameh, or about the last Shah of Iran! Fascinating!

Also, asking an LLM to think for you is eliminating your brain plasticity. Your neocortex spent 200 million years evolving to be an excellent pattern matcher and problem solver, and now sheer laziness is reducing it to simply giving commands.

There is no defense for AI slop. My problems with it are anthropological. AI slop removes the humanity from human experience. A human that has experienced true joy or trauma had no input into the slop you see. It is not the result of human experience, and thus should not substitute human experience.

I turned on actual telly the other day and was weirdly moved by the continuity announcer. I'd forgotten that, and how much less alone it made you feel.

spoke to the guardian about why there's still a future in linear yet

Last month, something unusual happened in TV - none of the main channels got a million viewers at 9pm. The bigger problem was it happened a 2nd & 3rd time soon after.

Another unwelcome landmark for linear TV & our shrinking shared TV experience.

Does it matter?

Best school trip I did was about 30 years ago to the Royal Highland Show.

I took home a sycamore tree sapling which I think is still invading my parent's garden.

It's The Guardian. They've been bumming AI for months now.

There's good advice out that there older people should continue to do puzzles that exercise the brain to stave off dementia.

Relying on LLMs to do basic, daily, very human tasks sounds like the complete opposite of that advice.

Apart from my gripes about people using AI in a way that eliminates human experience from life [which this example absolutely does] - it also all but eliminates brain plasticity. Your neocortex has spent 200 million years of evolution to be as flexible as it is.

What constitution? We don't have one. We govern based on vibes and statutory laws.
