A university student once, in my ex-wife’s presence, referred to Dutch as a “dialect of German.”

He’s lucky to be alive.

I’ve listened to Portishead’s album “Dummy” twice through tonight. Not as old, but it’s still one of the best.

With Mr. Ensign, it could be malice, it could be incompetence, it could be malicious incompetence, it could be incompetence malice, or it could just be “fuck you, Judge.”

I say throw his lying, contemptuous ass in jail & let him contemplate which of those possibilities should be his epitaph.

I still think the Trump DOJ is failing to produce competent witnesses here more out of incompetence than out of contempt — the lawyers in charge just cannot navigate agency structure and law. But as Judge Xinis’s “two strikes” comment suggests, they’re running out of time to learn their jobs.

Judge Xinis shows her frustration at the Trump DOJ.

"See, Mr. Ensign, this is the problem that I have."

She notes that her order demanded a witness who could deliver answers on Costa Rica.

"You come today with a witness that knows nothing about Costa Rica."

The problem is the people who fund the movies are also the ones who want to keep everyone else off “their” beaches

Well, I messed that up. Either “I think we can do without” or “I don’t think we need,” but not this.
jjgass.bsky.social
That would make much more sense but would rob me of my righteous indignation. So I’m ambivalent.

An “administrative” stay after oral argument? WTF is that?

Preserving the status quo before the TRO is a description of what they’re doing; it’s not a reason for doing it, & it’s not a legally sufficient reason for action or there would be no such thing as a TRO.

Chicken- & bullshit simultaneously

There’s no need to send the National Guard to Portland.

What would help, though, is sending them Helen from the Village Quarter in Portishead.

(From about 14:45 of this show, all of which is an excellent listen)

If two passengers had heart attacks, & SHE’S the passenger they remember, she must be quite remarkable (unless she’s a doctor-passenger who helped out).
jjgass.bsky.social
Nah. This is a tool in the box when dealing with a TRO. Throw in some mistakes to show you weren’t given enough time to do a proper opposition brief.

It was great literature, but I don’t think we can do without a sequel to Anne Frank’s diary

During a military-style raid on a building in Chicago’s South Shore, one resident heard a knock on his door.

It wasn’t the feds —  it was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for help.

He let them hide in his unit for the next 3 days.

I mean, I didn’t vote for Trump, & I don’t vote for any Florida state offices.

But I definitely didn’t vote for this.

Currently watching an anime where the premise is that the main character saves the world by giving into her compulsion to punch awful men in the face.

That's it. That's the show. All text, all the time and it is magnificent.

Say what you will about red states & blue states, but there's one way in which California law & policy have always been & apparently always will be superior to all others: no one can own the beach, and beach-adjacent landowners must allow the public to have access to the beach.

I love California's beach and coastline access laws.

And this quote is SO Humboldt County
Levy said the lagoon trail “goes nowhere,” which struck a nerve with Commissioner Mike Wilson, who’s also on the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in Northern California.

“Sometimes nowhere is where you want to be,” Wilson said. “This is actually a highly valued access point.”

I *think* she's joking.

But, after living in Paris for a couple of years, I understood French politics less than ever, & I've had a dozen years since then to forget whatever I might have inadvertently learned.

Anything is possible.

When people ask about my part of town, I tell the story about the terrorist stabbing attack at Borough Market a few years back & the guy who put down his pint, stood up, and yelled, "Fuck you, I'm Millwall!" before attacking the attackers with his bare hands.
