There is no such thing as an ethical billionaire. And the sooner we accept that he’s not going to save any of us the sooner we can start saving each other.

Politicians and community organizers at the city and local level are doing far more than he is, despite having far less power and money.

Oh I know that one, it's a classic! Does everyone hate me? Have I irreversibly made myself unlovable?

Brilliant in so many films. Keaton’s face is the last we see in “The Godfather,” and the pain she expresses in that moment is such a gut punch. RIP to a legend.

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

I'm particularly frustrated by coding challenges asking you to solve problems that were solved decades ago and are easily searchable. What are they testing exactly? Memory? I have been wondering how this has all changed with assumed/mandated AI use. I have to go through it all soon.

The highest marks I ever got for an essay was the one I started an hour before the due date. I *regularly* started writing essays the night before they were due, and graduated with a Distinction average.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

I did the same thing! But also this is a very neurodivergent experience and neurotypicals have a hard time drawing on those deep wells for a last minute push. So they should start earlier and make a todo list.

☝️Is there a sci-fi movie that you defend tooth and nail, but you feel a little alone in loving it?

Thank you! Finally people get it! This movie is just plain fun dammit!

The research is out that people who use genAI for writing know less about what it has written and remember fewer details but these people search for copium where they can I fear.

Recently I was clearly someone’s killjoy, and the emotional force of the attack/defense (whichever it is) was so intense, I felt as if hit by a truck. All because I said if X violates laws, then better avoid X in research.

Seems common sense 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rage bait. MW, we’re already all on edge don’t do this.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

We have neglected scientific integrity for years and now are surprised that some AI use has led to some questionable research practices (QRPs)
