a good editor will make you look amazing while you get all the credit

not enough writers today get that experience because so many editors are overworked and underpaid :(
blipstress.bsky.social
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

united tactical systems, who supplies dhs with pepperballs and launchers, refused to say whether ice is using its technology counter to how the company trained them and if they would ever cancel dhs's contract over misuse

imho the @thetriibe.com is doing some of the best ice coverage in the city

i don't think people outside the industry fully appreciate the scope of what they provide relative to their resources, and i think they should be the first click for non-chicagoans trying to understand chicago right now

NEW — Some TRiiBE readers, among many others on the internet, have been suggesting that the Chicago police arrest ICE agents for their misconduct.

TRiiBE publisher @morganelisej.thetriibe.com put out this explainer video, breaking down the legality for y’all.

in the column this week:

-advocates have confirmed/are investigating the abductions of ~25 unhoused folks by federal agents in chicago (via @katieprout.bsky.social)

-state/local leaders crack down on anti-ice protesters

-civil rights orgs ask chief judge to bar ice arrests at county courthouses
Make It Make Sense: ICE targets Chicago’s homeless community
Plus: state and local leaders crack down on anti-ICE protesters and advocates ask the chief judge to keep ICE out of county courthouses.

(the fbi has never shopped united tactical systems, btw, this is a joke about celebrating federal law enforcement spending money here without casting an eye on what they're buying)

he gonna spend money loading up on pepperballs from united tactical systems

i feel very good about being able to exist and get along in all kinds of spaces, but i keep a small close circle built on trust and consistency and don't invest much in other connections

i am okay with having a smaller life if i can trust everyone who's participating in it. i love it very much :)

does tear gas only count as bad when cops are sad about it????

27 police officers were among those injured by tear gas during a weekend protest, Chicago’s top cop says. blockclubchi.co/4nGOb0m

The camera and written word are HEAVY filters and if someone arrives on the scene to participate in the story, they have added another, even more significant filters.

I think a lot of thing people struggle with is the difference between reporting and capital-C Content is that you do, in fact, have to maintain some objectivity—something that's hard to do under the best of circumstances for entirely fair, reasonable causes.

I agree that ICE sucks. I have always thought it should not exist. I do not taunt ICE or participate in the protests!!!!!! That isn't real journalism!!!!!

In the past 4 weeks in Chicago, ICE/CBP have snatched hundreds of people off the streets & homes, shot & killed a single-father in his car, smashed & abandoned countless cars, and deployed chemical munitions at protesters, journalists, & now on public streets. Today they cuffed an alderperson.

The hate crime charge against Alexa Wilkinson for photographing vandalism of the New York Times building is a dangerous precedent, no matter what you think of Wilkinson.

In case you're wondering whether the TRUST Act will protect anyone: Border patrol just attacked press and protesters inside ISP's designated "free speech zone" and the state police reacted by immediately establishing a protective perimeter for the feds
mulchy.bsky.social
moments ago: pandemonium.

a huge mass of border patrol agents, led by greg bovino, pushed the crowd of protesters and started grabbing people at random.

leading up to this, folks were just calmly standing in the grass, following isp’s orders.

multiple people detained. no clue how many.
