Twitter isn't dead, but it is on life-support. It has swapped tweets for beeps in social media's ICU, tapping out SOS in morse code.

In-game economies teach behavioral economics better than textbooks. Every auction house flip and market manipulation in WoW is a lesson in supply, demand, and human psychology. 📈

31% of UCPers think she's done a poor job (or worse) with education.

Telling.

I mean, she doesn't have to worry because they'll keep voting her in, but still.

I'm looking at applying to research the sounds inside F1 race cars, so I was looking around to see what kinds of issues people have with those sorts of machines and how engineers approach those issues 😂

I got ID'd a few months back buying the devil's lettuce! Maybe you just have to switch? 😂

Lots of cool stuff that's pretty boring for others 😂

Stuff like frequency of sounds, how they organize them, dB levels, sound suppression...

They had trouble with a fan being too loud, and it was going to cost money and time to fix, so they were like, "Don't *really* need it. Just turn it off."

In what would be a surprise to absolutely no one, I spent my weekend digging into how NASA uses and studies sound. I'm so hopelessly lost down this rabbit hole 😂

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you get to enjoy it.

Pfft... Aren't you two from the hippie generation? It's practically expected of you. It's in your genetics 😂

Besides, someone has to show the young pups how it's done.

Our democracy and democratic systems are under serious attack, through both general ignorance and intentional meddling.

This. Needs. To. Stop.

If you aren’t concerned, angry, or involved in protecting this institution … why not?

Could you imagine accidentally grabbing one of those? The heart attack I'd have at the till 😂

I got a half pig for the price of two of those.

I was looking for the gif with the guys sitting in the lawn chairs in the snow, but couldn't find it 😂

And we're becoming more sensitive to that as the availability of that info increases.

The flip between system one and two thinking is an important factor here.
juxtacognition.bsky.social
I will add that treating all searches the same is a mistake.

I think the importance of the source of information is directly proportional to the amount of risk associated with the search/info and the effort we want to dedicate to that search.

When we search has changed. What we're seeking from brands has changed. Even what satisfys users has changed.

Yes, the article is right in that consumers demand something different from brand content. Trust has changed.

The why and what they're looking for now? The article doesn't go far enough.
juxtacognition.bsky.social
I think this article comes super close to the truth, but doesn't quite get there.

Remember that the definition of success in search is satisficing, not satisfying. The "physical" context has changed, but so has our cultural and knowledge base with which we're searching.

Ok, well, technically, I was asked to attend the department faculty meet and greet to represent the lab and talk about our research while eating free pizza and chatting with potentially interested undergrads.

But that's practically the same thing! My version just sounds like more fun.

Lure unsuspecting kids into my lair with their favourite food and stories of magic? That definitely sounds like a job for me!

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE
