I thought I would see how long it takes a card to reach you.

Yes I can see there are 4 trains at that time but I'd rather not have the hassle of worrying if I could get on them, and also ot feels against the spirit of a general strike to use them

Just found out there's a general strike in Italy on Friday, so I'll probably have to avoid trying yo travel from Pavia to Milan that evening. Aargh.

Paris also delivers the brut for my tastes. Notre Dame de la Salette in 15e is still my favourite of all the modern churches I've been to.
But very much looking forward to Milan and Pavia.

That's what I think I'll do thanks

Amazing thank you. Have you been to this one?

I'm tempted to see this pyramid one, plus its surrounding blocks that look like strands of spaghetti.

The two genders, etc

Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm in Milan next weekend. Any tips for good concrete buildings, especially churches?
This looks a big too far away...

Neurodivergent.
The population as a whole is neurodiverse.

And restricting park users to the top and far side only. In other parks holding festivals, eg Crystal Palace or Gunnersbury, access seems more egalitarian.
Andrew Smith's work on Finsbury Park festivals is useful to read on this.

Brockwell Park is a difficult one because of its relatively small size and layout compared with the other London parks used for commercial events.
Yes I've been to both Wide Awake festival and the County Show.
But, the location of the fences put up is obnoxious, blocking the main entrance
The NIMBYs complained about the festivals in Brockwell Park that helped fund Lambeth council, and now the Lambeth Country show - a decades old institution - has been cancelled.

Cheers folks. Well done.
Council blames cash crisis as country show cancelled

Lambeth council today (5 December) announced the cancellation of the annual Lambeth Country Show which has run uninterrupted for several decades. The move came as the council abandoned at the last minute its appeal against a High Court ruling in…

Universities: investing millions so students ”develop literacy in the language of AI”

Also universities: defunding the humanities so students are illiterate in ordinary languages

Even though they were much closer to Manchester, my grandparents generally preferred going to the Bradford club as it was more for "intellectuals", whereas the Cheetham Hill club was seen as a bit too common.
Never think migrant communities are homogeneous - there are always intra-distinctions.

Apparently all the Lithuanians drank in one room, and all the English in the other.

Seriously why did I not know this?

They were good friends with the bride's parents in the Lithuanian DP community in Bradford. The reception was at the Lithuanian club in Manningham.

Why haven't I heard this before?

My dad has just dropped a random piece of family history I hadn't heard before:
My grandparents attended the wedding of Ray Davies of The Kinks in 1964.

I'm going to a digital history workshop conference at Pavia next week, thanks to Adam, and there is a session on AI and translating archives. I'll report back.
BBC policy of presenter scripts saying “biological males who identify as women” as an addendum to every mention of “trans women” really is sickening

Great.

I am really liking Mandy Indiana. I hope I get to see them play live.

Something needs to be done about the Guardian and the New Statesman. It ought to be utterly unacceptable that they sing from the same songsheet as the rest of the media on this.
