I think I get why people like saunas. I spent three hours this afternoon in an inflatable costume in the sun, so hot that the plastic face screen fogged up and I wondered if I would pass out, but now I feel great. Just so clean and calm.

People like to be consistent. It's less effort to sign a petition for a good cause than to donate money, so that's where you start. No Kings is like that: a relatively low-effort, low-risk, and fun way to stand up for democracy that will hopefully prime people to do more if the need arises.

I'm reminded of a study I read about in an intro psych class. When researchers went door to door asking for donations for a good cause, they got some money, but when they did so a week or two *after* going door to door asking for people to sign a petition for the cause, they raised much more.

It's pathetic how many of these accounts are <name of department>.bsky.social and don't use their .gov domain as their handle.

If they weren't verified by BSky, I'd have assumed they were parodies or trolls

When I read Veblen in high school I felt so vindicated because I too really fucking hated lawns. Particularly front lawns that no one uses for anything, not even playing frisbee occasionally or whatever
