Not supporting Machado is not the same as validating Maduro’s regime. A leftist’s opinions litmus test is if you’re able to balance several thoughts at the same time and the ability to keep the nuances of issues, like Maduro is a dictator and Machado an awful choice.

She’s also cozied up to the Spanish ultra‑right, Franco‑nostalgic party Vox. She’s turning a blind eye to the cruelty of Trump’s ICE policies, because it serves her narrow political agenda. Fighting to get rid of Maduro does not automatically equal fighting for democracy.

Machado is right-wing. She has publicly expressed satisfaction with Trump’s election &has described it as a positive signal for Venezuela’s future. She doesn’t give AF about the human rights of her own countrymenLatinos. For her, democracy is expendable if it conflicts with her fight against Maduro.

Nobelkomiteen ser ut til å ha stilt seg på linje med den høyreekstreme bølgen som sprer seg og vinner legitimitet i den globale samtalen.
Det er en trist dag for dem som fortsatt trodde på prisens moralske prestisje. Dette er en “Kirk-ifisering” av Nobels fredspris.
