Looks like another person got himself in immigration trouble, which makes me think it might be timely to give some guidance on ways to mitigate this particular risk. The story is cut off but you see at the bottom of the screenshot where it says he had arranged something with his employer 1/

All through my Bungie years I would answer this with “well you know, it’s a world of laughter, a world of tears” until one day someone who clearly didn’t recognize the lyric called it “deep”. Then I was disappointed for them.

Was definitely a breakthrough for me when I realized that people don't care about the answers to the small talk questions they're asking you, you just have to say something friendly and vaguely on topic to keep the conversation going

I seriously wonder whether Trump may not understand that what he got are vaccines. As in: he didn’t get a flu vaccine, he got a “flu shot”. We know he’s not very smart, so maybe this is how his medical staff are shooting that gap.

Alternative: maybe he has been told they’re “fine for adults”.

I don’t recall that in the Montreal winter, but since leaving in 2004 I’ve made great efforts.l not to find myself there between November and May. You may be right about that.

Turned out the instructor was Moroccan from Montreal and had been trying all year not to use québécois expressions and thought she had maybe slipped up.

My wife took French when she was finishing her degree and during one of the oral tests her instructor heard her use a word and cut her off to ask how she had learned that word. “My husband says it to the cat.” (I speak to French Cat exclusively in French.)

I can’t speak for the US nasty winter cities because I’ve never lived in them, but Montreal (for example) connects basically its entire downtown underground to allow people to get places without going outside.

When I was there, there was a joke among students at McGill University in Montreal about anglos who go to McGill because they think they speak French.

one big hint that the Anglo Canadian French education system doesn't give a shit about actual functional understanding is that it teaches Metropolitan French rather than Québecois French
