i'd like to take this opportunity to remind people that Larry Niven read (and wrote) books, and also advised the US government to spread rumours that hospitals stole people's organs to discourage undocumented immigrants from using the health care system

This is akin to how, in Canada, the roots of the RCMP and NWMP before it are with the Reign of Terror in Red River (1869-70).
