Figuring out how to be at peace as our collective plane falls from the sky

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

not the point, but this guy

1) looks like an officer, not a regular Marine
2) is the sort of officer that regular Marines *hate*
NEWSMAX: Are you among the Republicans who are concerned about how things are being handled in MN?

REP. RICH McCORMICK: When things went wrong in the military, when I was in the Marines, people died sometimes, and sometimes it was through no fault of anymore. Just bad circumstance. Mistakes happen

From Serwer's piece on Minneapolis, according to maga

"The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter." but "It did not"

The former is nazi thinking in WWII. The latter is what happened in WWII. Every time nazis rise on the same premise, their assumptions fail against good people

Tim Pool: “I’m not licking the boot. It’s my boot. I voted for it. I’m the one stomping…”

This mindset is genuinely pathetic.

It’s an alpha fantasy: watching state violence and imagining you’re exercising power rather than the one submitting to it.

Stop what you’re doing and read this piece, which is as powerful as you’d expect from @adamserwer.bsky.social witnessing the events of last week on the ground in Minnesota. “The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone.”

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

The US Holocaust Museum being more outraged by Tim Walz saying that, like Anne Frank, children today are in hiding from armed agents of the state, than they are about the fact that children are in hiding from armed agents of the state, is why Holocaust remembrance culture is in crisis.

I have seen Dante-esque hell way too many times in Bay Area nursing homes

specifically because the way to turn them into profit-generating dungeons is by keeping nursing staff low
Meanwhile: Nursing home moguls successfully bribed the president to do away with a regulation that increases staffing to prevent neglect of patients.

Perry: Abolish ICE? How about DHS altogether.
"We have models for how to structure federal immigration oversight that doesn't rely on an unaccountable masked secret police force running rampant in our streets," David M. Perry writes.
