no one in that comic is dressed for fall.

a GIRL in a COMIC BOOK STORE? You know some extradimensional Halloween shenanigans are about to shake the foundations of Riverdale, Sonicland, and wherever that cat they photographed was living at the time! It's either trick or treat this week at Stupid Comics! misterkitty.net/extras/stupi...

It was amazing having support in the media. If only it had translated to lasting support in the mediums I was working in!

great cabinet, great design, great controls, great game play, easy enough to grasp at first but difficult enough to keep it challenging, a winner

not gonna lie, I played the heck out of the arcade game, but that did not translate into me wanting to see the movie, which I never did get around to seeing

Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

I don’t think an anime opening has ever made me laugh so hard.

what a ridiculous thing to say about Johnny Cash! I mean, come on!

It's a surprisingly good film, considering the general Arch Hall Jr. body of work

last month I wrote this piece on the Japanese toy line UFO Commander 7 and the English/French/German manga packaged with the toys at Let's Anime, and then @krpalmer.bsky.social finds these amazing issues of Creative Computing starring those robot toys! letsanime.blogspot.com/2025/09/amer...

at this point it's such an inescapable part of culture, having an opinion on it one way or another is almost meaningless

there's an English promo video of this one floating around out there somewheres. It's a really interesting looking show, well designed with that TMS gloss, but you can still see the Monkey Punch in there.

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

seriously, I think right after that interview I spoke to the Star Blazers Revival guy, who had a plan to get Star Blazers on TV again so he could make "the kids" watch Star Blazers instead of Pokémon, because that's how that works (?)

I think that's Crazy Grandma Prime right there
terebifunhouse.bsky.social
of course if you want to witness this every day, simply get a job in a comic book store, where the crazy grandmas (and grandpas and grandkids) will bring in their beat up 90s comics expecting Top Dollar Put Their Kids Through College money. "It's The Death of Superman!" they'll say.

sometimes we see the crazy prices, sometimes we see wild bargains, it's that uncertainty that keeps us on our toes

in what book do beat-up Charltons command $8 each? The Crazy Grandma Comic Book Price Guide, that's the book all these people are using to grade and value their tremendously overpriced junk. When you see an absolutely destroyed issue of Hot Stuff selling for $75, you know where that price came from
terebifunhouse.bsky.social
the "Crazy Grandma Comic Book Price Guide" story: we're at the Nashville fairgrounds flea market in 2000? 2001? and there's a bunch of beat-up Charlton monster books at the table of a lady of shall we say a certain age. They aren't priced and she says "these book at $8 each." Now, what book is that?

the thing about the old school internet vibe is that it's pretty robust, it's a simple HTML thing that has survived when a lot of other, more 'advanced' sites have collapsed under their own weight.

thanks for the praise!! I know we call it "Stupid Comics" but I love a lot of these books. Especially anything with Cricket O'Dell in it, just a ridiculous character, yet everyone acts as if being able to smell money is no big deal

If you are after an awesome look at old comics, I can strongly recommend @terebifunhouse.bsky.social’s Stupid Comics at misterkitty.net

Some of the funniest commentary I’ve seen, and the phrase “crazy grandma prices” has entered my lexicon when I talk about a worthless thing that’s expensive
Jughead from Archie introducing Cricket O’Dell, a girl who can literally smell money, to Veronica Lodge’s dad. Cricket shrieks like she’s met one of the Beatles
