Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

there's an English promo video of this one floating around out there somewheres. It's a really interesting looking show, well designed with that TMS gloss, but you can still see the Monkey Punch in there.

seriously, I think right after that interview I spoke to the Star Blazers Revival guy, who had a plan to get Star Blazers on TV again so he could make "the kids" watch Star Blazers instead of Pokémon, because that's how that works (?)

of course if you want to witness this every day, simply get a job in a comic book store, where the crazy grandmas (and grandpas and grandkids) will bring in their beat up 90s comics expecting Top Dollar Put Their Kids Through College money. "It's The Death of Superman!" they'll say.

in what book do beat-up Charltons command $8 each? The Crazy Grandma Comic Book Price Guide, that's the book all these people are using to grade and value their tremendously overpriced junk. When you see an absolutely destroyed issue of Hot Stuff selling for $75, you know where that price came from

the "Crazy Grandma Comic Book Price Guide" story: we're at the Nashville fairgrounds flea market in 2000? 2001? and there's a bunch of beat-up Charlton monster books at the table of a lady of shall we say a certain age. They aren't priced and she says "these book at $8 each." Now, what book is that?

the thing about the old school internet vibe is that it's pretty robust, it's a simple HTML thing that has survived when a lot of other, more 'advanced' sites have collapsed under their own weight.

thanks for the praise!! I know we call it "Stupid Comics" but I love a lot of these books. Especially anything with Cricket O'Dell in it, just a ridiculous character, yet everyone acts as if being able to smell money is no big deal
