#StillDoinCDs Bob Dylan’s 1965 5th album “Bringing It All Back Home” was interestingly split: the 1st 7 songs were a hallucinatory, gonzo literary reworking of blues music, while the last 4 were classic 60s folk. Only Subterranean Homesick Blues was a top-10 single for Bob; covers were a bonanza.
Fisheye lens type image of Bob Dylan looking intently at the viewer from a divan covered in magazines and album covers, in front of a fireplace with an ornately carved mantle depicting a classical scene. At the end of the divan, near the fireplace, a woman in a red dress (Dylan’s manager’s wife, Sally Grossman) sits smoking a cigarette. Indoors! Dylan holds his grey cat, said on Wikipedia to have been named “Rolling Stone.” Subterranean Homesick Blues	2:17

#StillDoinCDs Great Lake Swimmers is a folky Ontario rock band from Toronto via Wainfleet whose 2007 3d album Ongiara, named after a Toronto Island ferry boat, became well known after release by big indie label Nettwerk. Banjo-highlighted single “Your Rocky Spine” topped the CBC radio 3 charts.
A collage with lightly cloudy sky and low hills in the background features a soaring bald eagle coming straight toward the viewer in the air, twisting its head as if about to bank left.

#StillDoinCDs Alan Doyle from Petty Harbour, NL, now in town starring in his musical comedy Tell Tale Harbour, issued his 4th & most recent solo outing in 2024, “Welcome Home.” It has 9 songs so well crafted that it sounds much like a “Best of” album. Most popular: “Dancing Like We Did Last Night.”
Cover is a landscape with a black mountain, a purple-grey arm of the sea, and a patch of gently sloping land with a small, yellow one room shed or house on it, with dark brown roof, all reduced almost to their simplified geometry, with an orangey, fading to grey, sunset sky in the background. A small full moon looks over the scene from near the middle of the sky.

#StillDoinCDs Pat Metheny, from NYC via Lee’s Summit, Missouri, is a jazz guitar wunderkind who’s won 20 Grammy awards in 10 categories, some with his eponymous band. Secret Story, 1992, is solo album 5 of 13 so far, & features melodic songs with filmic orchestration & exotic tones.
A collage of many personal photos and abstract and quasi-ancient art pieces and art photos surrounds an especially large image showing a border collie leaping into the air on a rural road.

#StillDoinCDs London prog-pop-rock band & cool student dorm fave Supertramp, distinguished by the staccato keyboards of Rick Davies, had their biggest commercial success in 1979 with “Breakfast In America;” among the plethora of radio singles, “The Logical Song” was their 1st #1 hit - in Canada!
In a mockup of New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty is replaced by a uniform-clad waitress holding up a glass of orange juice on a tray. In her other, lowered hand is a menu bearing the album title as a logo. The skyscraper skyline of New York, behind her & across the harbour, is replaced by upright white columnar dishware — shakers, stacks of cups, mustard dispensers etc. A plate with an eggs & toast breakfast on it sits harbourside, flanked by pairs of knives & forks sticking out across the water like docking piers. The whole image is seen as if through an overly proximal airplane window.

Lighting up my surroundings. These Prunus species trees (there are two of them, one behind the other) grace us with pink flowers every spring. Every autumn, they give us these glowing colours. 🌱🌸🍂

The only thing better than one Böhm’s Bee-eater, is two of these beautiful birds!

📍Mbuyuni Farm Retreat, Morogoro, Tanzania.

#Tanzania #Birds #NaturePhotography 🪶
Slim green bee-eater with an orange throat and crown, a black tip to the tail, and elongated black tail streamers. Found very locally in moist woodland and forest edge, usually near rivers and streams. Typically in pairs or small groups. The call is an up-and-down series of high-pitched whistles.

Red Squirrels always looking like they're about to politely interrupt
A Red Squirrel stands upright on the forest floor, tiny paws clasped neatly together as if waiting nervously to ask a question. Its wide eyes and hesitant posture give it an endearing, almost apologetic expression, as though feeling rather unsure about interrupting.

I had a great day birding yesterday. Sandhills and Great Blue Herons and Squirrels. Pics to come.

Here's one more of that wonderful brief close encounter with the Red-tailed Hawk.

Have a great new week!

A red-tailed hawk taking off from a rather low perch on a city sign. It's wings are spread and it's face and red tail are in good focus. The bird is just a few feet higher that the photographer.

A distant Oak tree for #ThickTrunkTuesday #Trees #Oak #ColorADay #GreenSat
An Oak tree in full leaf rises behind a footpath gate marking the way to the woods behind the Oak. The foreground contains long grass and thistles ripened by the summer sun hedges at the back of the field split in the middle to reveal a metal footpath gate with a yellow topped post to indicate the way. The trunk of the Oak tree rises behind the gate with the main branches abnnd leaves starting above the hedges other trees can be seen in the background these all form part of the woods at Bascote Heath and the footpath runs alongside the edge of the woods to Ufton, Warwickshire. Blue sky is visble above the tree canopy. Image from the 5th of August 2025.

Twin Oaks sunrise this morning 10th October 2025
#Scape #Sunrise #Dawn #Oak
One of my go to places to watch the sunrise - twin Oak trees in a recently planted farmers field in Southam Warwickshire. The foreground is inn heavy shadow with the green green shoots of a recently planted crop just visible. The Twin Oaks are just to the right of the centre of the image and the tops of the trees sit just beklow the middle of the image. A line of mist sits behind the Oak trees and other trees that are further away can be seen in and above the mist. Above these trees the sky changes from grey through orange, yellow, pink to blue at the top of the image. A thin line ofred clouds crosses the image just above the tops of the Oak trees and the reflected light from the clouds givinga pink tinge to the mist.

There is nothing better than finding peace and quiet

The picture shows a landscape at sunset. In the foreground, the dark branches of a pine tree can be seen, framing the image. In the middle, there is a calm body of water reflecting the warm colors of the sky. A small settlement lies on the shore. In the background, several layers of mountains rise, depicted as dark silhouettes against the sky. The sky is rendered in soft shades of orange, yellow, and gray, with some clouds.
