I also give advice to figure skaters to simply not fall out of their jumps at the Olympics. Am thinking of starting a consulting business.

if I were the dodgers I would simply hit baseballs to places with no baseball players

If I were a professional baseball player in extra innings at home during an elimination playoff game I would simply hit a home run instead of grounding into a double play.

Feels like we really have a chance to do some good in this moment with all the inflatable frog suits

Listening to an album of classic children's songs and no one sings "Froggy Went A-Courtin' " anymore. And with this decline in popularity of a 500 year old folk song, autism diagnoses rose exponentially. I demand research into this.

We got half pay for midmonth pay in 2011 and then everyone panicked and passed a bill real quick so we could get the other half of the paycheck the very next day. I remember this very well because I was in Kandahar and extremely salty about the whole thing.

Overall I don't dislike it, per se, but I'm more interested to see the author's follow-on works in original worlds and with a more strict editor.

So there is a great deal of the story that relies on you believing that the Hermione stand-in (Helena) has this great, long history with the Harry Potter stand-in (Luc) but we never see most of it on the page, so it doesn't really ring true.

Where it does fail and you see the fanfiction poke through is the story structure. It essentially is an alternate universe story for what might have happened if Malfoy had killed Dumbledore and things went bad. But in an original story you don't have those six books of backstory for the characters.

It's not exactly bad. I quite like certain things like the body horror of the necromancer. I think the author did an adequate job with the worldbuilding to replace the Harry Potter magic system, and changing that to a flawed religious dogma helps to make the conflict seem more nuanced.

I checked out the audiobook from my local library and have been making my way through it while knitting and cleaning and the like and my initial review after making it 75% of the way through is that this book needed to be at least 30% shorter. Desperate need for a more brutal editor.

BookTok Discourse final boss: is buying Alchemised unethical because it was originally based off Harry Potter IP and will spark more interest and money towards JKR vs are you unfairly bashing the work of a nonbinary POC author who has worked hard to separate their book from its former HP identity

This just gave me flashbacks to repeated attempts to convince brigade command that we were not deadlining a vehicle because the air conditioning was broken, we were deadlining *the equipment* inside the vehicle which couldn't run without the air conditioning and brigade command being so fucking mad.

It’s a meaningful slur only to deeply insecure guys.

Like, I own my POGness, so infantry guys don’t even bother calling me a POG, why would they?

“Yeah man, they had to air condition the equipment I used, it was so fucking sweet. How was trying not to let your 1LT get you killed?”

This has about a 30% success rate.

Logic and reason have failed me, at this point I am merely trying to hold on when there is nothing in me except the Will which says: ‘Hold on!’

I tell my toddler a lot to not do things like run away from me in a parking lot "because it's not safe" and now as a result any time he doesn't want to do anything he tells me he can't because it's "not safe".

staring at my kid last night after I recaptured and wrangled them into the carseat like "okay we don't spank, I can't *not* go on this car ride because I need to pick up my older kid, I'm not supposed to yelll.... can I tell him there are ghosts out there? is that psychologically traumatizing?"
lethalityjane.bsky.social
don't ever yell at your child just talk calmly

my two year old is immune to this construct we as a society have labeled "reason" so I'm gonna need you to come up with a way to explain to them that they can't take off at a dead sprint every time we leave the house because I am out of ideas 😭

I would like for him to win, to be clear! But yes, I think your assessment is correct.

Primary everyone, unless I like that candidate, then it should be illegal for someone I don't like to run against them in a primary election.

I liked TTPD and TLOAS but I respect Todd's hate because Todd is honest in his hate.
lethalityjane.bsky.social
Todd is not one of those people, Todd has integrity.

The funniest part of the latest round of Taylor Swift backlash is how many people are now pretending that they loved TTPD from day one.

This would make more sense to me if Taylor was coming off a generationally great album or something rather than Tortured Poets Department
