#Gaurodan is out!

The 2013 game has been completely redone to fit my current vision of traditional arcade game design. It's denser (more levels but less overall length), with better pacing, mechanics and a proper scoring system.

Total. A lo que iba mi post es a que la gente habla de la mentalidad "sacacuartos" de los arcades como si en los sistemas domésticos no te sacasen los cuartos, y mi point es que si haces cuentas, casi nadie se gastó una millonada en los arcades, porque la cosa no iba de continuar ni echar horas

I played this a lot when I was a kid.

With it I learned that high jumps are pretty fun to move around but they can bring down the fighting part. I still feel that in many games with double jump, air dashes and other platforming movements that can be exploited to avoid combat (with a huge margin).

Yo sigo haciendo patada voladora y seguido patada agachada en todos los juegos de lucha incluso con jugadores humanos. Siempre pierdo obviamente xD

Solo gano cuando aporreo botones y lanzo técnicas rarísimas de forma imprevisible sin saber ni lo que estoy haciendo :}

That said, there have been games designed to suck money since the start of the medium. But also shareware, freeware, doujin and things that exist for cultural reasons. And today we have all the options if you know where to look.

Games exist outside of stores and big platforms blabla you know...

Siempre ha habido buenas y malas prácticas, y gente más o menos avariciosa.

En el caso de SF2, creo que simplemente se jugó muchísimo en torneos y se fue perfeccionando. Diría que entró en la dinámica de los e-sports antes de las actualizaciones online, y de ahí las mil versiones

It's curious how my arcade-oriented brain gets the "too short" complaints as something appealing.

I think my most played games in terms of total playtime are 20 minutes long games played again and again over the years.

I don't think people who keep calling arcade games "money suckers" are using Excel with contemporary AAA games.

Also, in the arcades you don't have to buy the system, controller or TV. Arcades were expensive, of course, but not that much. It's just that you were super conscious about the spending

That was the Doctor when I discovered the series in a local Spanish TV in the late 80s or maybe even early 90s. I was all like "hey, there is some amazing stuff happening in this series", but nobody around cared :}

Rompiendo la cuarta pared a tope. A mí me gustaba que al pausar The Maze of Galious el personaje se ponía a cagar. Como si no existiese otro motivo posible de pausa

En esos juegos sin scroll es que hay un efecto mágico al cambiar de pantalla: ves el nuevo escenario de golpe, con todo ya perfectamente encuadrado en la vista. Es chulo intentar anticipar qué habrá en la siguiente pantalla, y reconocer el escenario de un vistazo en el primer segundo

Esos pequeños detalles de aparente comprensión del entorno siempre flipan. Los que en su día me volaron la cabeza en ese sentido fueron Ghosts 'n Goblins y su secuela, con los esqueletos que se incorporaban al escenario. Luego, con las gárgolas y los ogros pensaba: luchan conmigo pero de verdad.

Había un juego, no recuerdo cuál, en el que el sprite no cambiaba de un lado a otro, pero en la animación de volverse cambiaba la espada de mano para justificarlo. Ambidiestro total xD

Ufff a mí en los shumpos me turboflipan las transiciones de espacio a superficie (o al contrario) en mitad de la acción. La última que me flipó fue la del primer nivel de Drainus, que empiezas saliendo de bajo tierra y acabas entre los restos flotantes del planeta en el que estabas ✨
