COVER REVEAL AND PREORDER: The Public Scholar - A Practical Handbook.

"Perry focuses on the practical details of how to approach public scholarship. How do you pitch a piece to an editor? When should you follow or ignore the rules of the genre? And what happens once your piece is out in the world?"

People are really asking me why the mainstream news is barely reporting the closing of special ed dept at DoEd like all our big media companies aren't owned and run by absolute psychopaths.
lollardfish.bsky.social
not if you're a special ed teacher. It's worth taking some time to understand the role of federal, state, and district governments, where the funding comes from, and what OSEP does and doesn't do. It does a lot. It doesn't do everything and it doesn't have anything to do with local funding.

They'll never do it, but Portland's public transit cards are Hop cards & I would love to see this design on one. "Taking Tri-Met to a protest? We have a Hop card for that."
Image of a frog that looks similar to the inflatable frog costumes people are wearing to protest ICE in Portland, OR. The image is done in the style of Shepard Fairey's iconic Barack Obama "Hope" poster, but done mostly in shades of green. The frog is wearing a neckerchief in the stars & stripes of the American flag, which what appears to be a cape of red & white stripes. Beneath the frog it says "Hop".

I would throw money at a t-shirt that says in all caps “TAKE A LOOK, IT’S IN A BOOK” over a rainbow.

I’m not trying to give @pbs.org ideas for raising money—but I am. I would buy women’s fit T-shirts of all my favorite childhood shows. Reading rainbow, 321 contact, square one, zoobiliee zoo. I feel like two generations will run to donate even more money for shirts with Levar Burton on them…

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

I moderated a panel on special education reporting last week, and COPAA's legal director's details on the gutting of OCR were terrifying.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

I would actually expect this to hit deep red states the hardest. Their governments will not fill the gap, and they already have weak regulatory oversight and weak social services.

But in case you missed it, Fr Dowling's statement takes the time to make it explicit: "Father, forgive the ones who do not know what they are doing. Have mercy on the souls of those who know exactly what they're doing."

Caught a lot today. Here’s what might be the last!
A large crappie held before the camera. The light is fading as the sun sets? But it kind of glows.

It's utterly devastating to see decades of progress for the disability community being wiped out in just a few months.

There was of course much work to be done, but now that effort will have to be devoted to clawing back the gains now being ripped away.

I did not expect them to win. I felt IU had reached the "we beat bad teams, compete but lose to good teams, get beaten badly by the best team."

THIS IS BETTER!

But remember the law is still the law. All of the rights are still rights. It’s a new phase of the battle, and one that can’t depend on basic bipartisan goodwill.
lollardfish.bsky.social
I spoke to @jessgrose.bsky.social about this threat last December (I think). It’s as bad as we feared.
lollardfish.bsky.social
Basic support for special ed was a key part of the bipartisan consensus around disability rights dating back decades. Current gop lawmakers and scotus judges have played key roles recently in supporting those rights. But what use are rights without enforcement?
