I'm still very much in "soft launch" phase for this but when we hit 50 followers on the pre-launch page I'll drop the current draft of the cover art

#MÖRKTOBER DAY 15: NAILS

"At the base of The Basin, the dead don’t surrender easily to the salvagers’ hooks. They cling to life as their lungs fill with black water, and in their final moments, the stone at the bottom of the pit wrenches their fingernails loose."

Words by me, art by @nohr.se
At the base of The Basin, the dead don’t surrender easily to the salvagers’ hooks. They cling to life even as their lungs fill with black water, and in their final thrashing moments, the stone at the bottom of the pit wrenches their fingernails loose.

The nails drift down through the dark water and settle in the sediment alongside the iron collars and forgotten coins. They absorb something from the darkness - perhaps desperation, or the final fierce refusal to die. Ostrid and her crew collect them as a side hustle.

BASIN NAILS
Sold in sets of ten for 80s. Each is grey-black and brittle, stained with sediment and old blood.

When ground into powder and mixed with water they create a murky black drink. Those who ingest it must Test Presence DR14. On success, they can breathe underwater for d6 hours, though each breath tastes of drowning and desperation. On failure, they become convinced they’re drowning even on dry land (d2 damage per round until restrained and calmed).

So ridiculous I used the word twice

Day one of @samsorensen.bsky.social's enormous, ridiculous @mothership.bsky.social megagame has been a ridiculous amount of fun. I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm having the best time. This is incredible.

#MÖRKTOBER Day 14: Anchor

"Accused criminals are thrown into the basin wearing iron collars. The collars anchor them to the bottom, where they can struggle and scream into the water but never surface."

Words by @loottheroom.bsky.social, art by me.
MÖRKTOBER Day 14: Anchor

THE WEIGHTED BASIN
Three miles south of the Múr, in a collapsed caldera, sits The Weighted Basin. The stone pool is forty feet deep, its water black and cold. A carnival of the damned has taken root around its rim.
Accused criminals are thrown into the basin wearing iron collars. The collars anchor them to the bottom, where they can struggle and scream into the water but never surface.
Bookmakers shout odds on how long each prisoner will thrash before going still while the market roars around them. Food vendors sell grilled eel and basin-water taffy. Children throw stones into the pool to watch the ripples, trying to hit those struggling beneath the water. The salvagers work in shifts, diving down with hooked poles to retrieve the bodies once the bets have been paid out.
The collars are worth 400s each to collectors and occultists. The bodies are sold to anatomists and necromancers for considerably less.

The Salvagers
Ostrid Deep-Lung leads the dive teams. She can hold her breath for six minutes. Her skin has taken on a grey, waxy quality from repeated exposure to the basin water.

Carries 2d4 retrieved collars at any given time

Illustration showing a diver reaching for the bottom of a pool of dark water, carrying a hooked staff. On the lake's floor are rocks and bodies, and a drowning person struggling with a heavy iron collar.

#MÖRKTOBER DAY 13: WEB

"THRELKIS and her seven daughters maintain the old ways. When the giants walked the earth, her ancestors spun the cables for their great bridges. Now she huddles in this castle with her children, clacking prayers to absent gods."

THRELKIS and her seven daughters maintain the old ways. When the giants walked the earth, her ancestors spun the cables for their great bridges.. Now she huddles in this castle with her children, mandibles clacking prayers to absent gods, still filled with the need to serve.

While they wait for the return of the giants they practice new construction techniques. Their webs span every room and structure, testing tension, and thickness, and load-bearing capacity. They keep a collection of ancient giant tools, each one a holy relic. For enough tribute, they’ll part with measuring chains that calculate impossible distances, plumb-lines with unbreakable cord that always point to the centre of the earth no matter how gravity shifts around them, iron foundation stakes as long as a man is tall.

Word has reached them that Glopstepalof seeks their expertise. They’re terrified of the frog-wizard but their purpose demands that they answer when they’re called upon to serve. They know that when the flood comes again, someone will need to build above it.

Funnily enough I have a decant of Etat Libre d'Orange You or Someone Like You sitting here waiting to be tried

Current favourites are Penhaligon's The Cut, Creed Green Irish Tweed, and LV Imagination. I like a lot of Maison Margiella scents as well, particularly Sailing Day

What I've discovered as I try lots of fragrances is that I do not have the budget to match my tastes.
